New brake system for my car... is it possible?

My car: Octavia 1 Elegance 1.8T 20V 4x4 - VIN 2003, engine code ARX.

I intend to change my stock brake system with one from Octavia 1 RS.

My front present value is: 288mm, future value is 312mm.

Is it possible to change it without more complications (ABS unit, axel pins)? I mean, only by using new calipers, holders, brake pads & discs, brake hose ?

nope, you will be just fine by swapping the calipers, carriers and disks. :D

I think you'd even be fine without changing the calipers. Just check whether you need to change the splash guards.

The callipers that Octavia 1 4x4 1.8T does have - stock - are the same with the ones from Octavia 1 RS? Do you know the brand of your own (stock, on the car presently)? Octavia RS and Seat FR have ATE.

And for how long did you do these modifications?

I did the same upgrade to my Fabia vRS, except I did change calipers.

Before anyone get confused, on the Octavia you dont have to change the calipers.

If I understand correctly the meaning of "splash guards", then I don't have them anymore on my car, due to an optical "Allroad" kit by Millotec which I have decided to use half a year before...

OK. I can't even remember if they're fitted to the fronts, but I had to change the metal plates behind the discs when I did my rears (and they were a complete PITA to do, too!). They're black discs which fir behind the brake discs and, I presume, keep the brake discs cleaner. Can't remember what they're actually called - maybe someone on here will give their name?

I think they're heat shields... not 100% tho

As for the name...do you mean maybe the discs holders?:confused: Or some cleaner plates ?

I am still digging to find out how true this is, but it seems that the calipers and brake pads are identical with the ones used for RS. I will try to see how real this statement is. And I'll let you know...meanwhile, please help me out with this issue, if you know more technical stuff. I want to be sure before modifying it. Thank you in advance! :rolleyes:

That can effect it yes, as can multiple pads. But if you have the same pad area but a larger disc (i.e the pad is further out) you have greater leverage. Think of undoing a nut with a 10mm long spanner and then one a metre long, which one is easier?

And, as a secondary reason, larger volume & surface area should lead to a cooler brake disc.

I did a 312 upgrade on my PD150 bora from 288. Believe me they make a MASSIVE difference.

i stand corrected. still cant understand it, but then, brakes isn't something i can claim alot of knowledge. i'm just trying to apply my own version of common sense physics to the equation.

I only have an SDi so my current braking force is plenty adequate for the power levels it has, lol.

Oh, and my SDi appears to have 256mm disks? is that right? from what i can see 281 or 288 is available as standard parts for some more powerful Octy's. should i be considering using these at my next pad/disk change? (i suspect brakes will come up at my next MOT in April)

You cant swap to the SDi discs without changing the front hubs as the carrier for the caliper is built into the hub unit not allowing a larger disc to be fitted.

i'll manage without i think. as i said, i dont think with a mere 65 ponies under the bonnet i need more. but if it had been an easy swap, i'd have given them a try.

Well, reactivating my topic with a reason... I have fitted the new 312mm RS discs !!!! :):thumbup:

Moreover, Ferodo DS Performance brake pads & Castrol SRF Super DOT4 !

I will post some pictures soon... :rolleyes:

But the hapiness didn't come all by itself unfortunately: my 16" INTRA from Skoda wheels DO NOT FIT ANYMORE with the calipers ! :thumbdwn: So I have to sell them... due to the model of the alloy, I think (ET42) - see the pictures and give oppinions...the pics are from the age of 288mmm :))
