Right, back from doing some 0-60 runs... (thanks westy!)

10.0 1.83 0.57 7

20.0 2.68 0.57 26

30.0 3.35 0.67 51

40.0 4.37 0.55 104

50.0 5.38 0.46 170

60.0 6.41 0.42 254

Peak G: 27.7mph \ 3.19s \ 44ft \ 0.69g

So a 0-60 of 6.41seconds, mildly chuffed with that. :thumb:

(and, tho not scientific, assuming a 0.103 second time per 1mph (as it was from 50-60mph) that would give a 0-62(ie 0-100kmh) of 6.61)

Those are very impressive figures indeed.

I would have thought that the 0-30mph time would have been quicker than that though seeing as its a 4x4.

If i remember correctly an Impreza WRX gets to 30mph in under 2 seconds. This is probably done by side steeping the clutch though! So not a good idea.

Great times though!

The clutch isn't the best, I smoked it (some time ago) trying a 4k launch, those were around 2k then full as I gently released the clutch, only did a handful of runs and the road did have some loose gravel that we threw up on launch, I reckon with "circuit" tarmac we could have done better.

6.41?!

Not bad for a Skoda 8)

Rob.

Ian,

Congratulations, mighty impressive! Did you also measure your 40-70 acceleration?

So that's with an Estate at 222bhp? When I get lucky and the conservative Oettinger chip takes me to 215bhp (fly-by-wire, VVT and all that) I might get near you with my [i:a06acc0a74]slightly[/i:a06acc0a74] lighter hatchback...

But given the fact that the last second is up to the driver, I probably won't stand a chance...

Tavia4x4,

Those are really impressive figures

A few questions then:

(1) Did you have another adequately sized person (not infant or little child 8) ) in the car?

(2) Fuel tank (full boost optimax I suppose  ) >/= 1/2?

(3) Did you launch from 2-2500rpm with clutch dump and at which rpms you did gear changes?

(4) Is it right to suppose that you reached 60mph by just one gear change (1st -> 2nd)?

(3) Did you take the badges off before the run

(4) Had you eaten before or you were fasting?

The best I have done with my 2WD-Octavia 1.8T -ABT (210hp) was 6.63sec (0-100 km/h) on really excellent quality tarmac (but some upward inclination of 5-10 degrees), on my own in the car (94kg), something around 70 pounds additional weight, >1/2 fuel tank, and the badges on of course ( ).

However, in the wet or bad quality road I'll do much worse that you...

I'll answer for my test was slightly slower than Ian's. I got 7.4 I think,

Tests were two up, I was dead on 1/2tank and tht time was at 3krpm launch. Problem I found is that the 4x4 gearing is quite short, 60 according to the AP22 was just as 2nd was into the red and it almost struggled to get it, well it felt painfull. Above 4k launch the clutch just slips, sadly.

As Dutch says, technique accounts for alot, I should of let Ian do mine aswell, I held 1st for too long as my figures will hopefully show. However, anything in 7secs is good enough for me, and the food was great :)

Should of eaten after testing...I had starved myself for 3 days

So technique or the jabba boost spike. All in all the 1.8T lumps are good bang for the money. Anybody have similar stats for the RS, Golf equivs? Would be intresting to see how the haldex adds weight/improves launches trade off's.

As I posted in the other thread:

Last time mine was timed for 0-100km I got the following times:

1. 6.21, ASR off

2. 6.05, ASR on

3. 5.98, ASR on

4. 6.03, ASR on

5. 6.13, ASR off

6. 5.99, ASR on

7. 6.01, ASR off

8. 5.97, ASR off

The 0-160 time was guessed from the timed runs at Santapod. There I did standing 1/4 mile in 14.2 at 101mph, IIRC. I've got the slips for my 3 runs at Santa Pod somewhere

I've only done this sort of thing twice as its not really that good for the car.[/quote:ebd02ebb49]

This was pre-Milltek full exhaust, just a cat back system at the time. Possibly quicker now than it was then. All figures, full tank of fuel and little old me (well, all 110 kg of me  ) . The Santa Pod stdg 1/4 miles were with a damp track, the rest were dry and ambient temp was about 11 degrees.

Might as well add that at Bruntingthorpe I was getting 6.4 with approx 212bhp and the handbrake on (cheers Mark!!! )

Hi All

I was very impressed with both cars. You can certainly feel that those chips are doing the job.

Both cars were tested with my 16 stone of lardy arse in there. So the tests were a proper 2 up. The road conditions wasn't perfect as Ian mentioned, although the 4x4 did a good job of getting its grip down. The vRS would have had troubles.

All in all, it was a very good afternoon. We'll have to do it again sometime.

What exactly is done to your car? Sub 6sec times is extremely quick for a FWD car!

Agreed, I think I can beat those times :) (EDIT, talking about my previous times there, not Jon's.)

We were two up, 3qtr tank of fuel, and a load of stuff in the boot (including a Dell rackmount kit - - shoulda taken that out!!)

maybe you could

Looking at those figures. You had a very quick start. The figures show that it struggled between 50-60. I wonder if Ians is geared differently.

Problem I found is that the 4x4 gearing is quite short, 60 according to the AP22 was just as 2nd was into the red and it almost struggled to get it, well it felt painfull. Above 4k launch the clutch just slips, sadly.

Well, Colin, it shows alright! You must have changed up to 3rd between 50 and 60, perhaps right after you peaked at 51.2. It's that or performance in the red zone drops significantly...

But what a demon start - looks like the driver doesn't need any coaching in that area! 8)

hehe  ta, but that start was a carefully calculated event  Three other starts saw the clutch slip away...As I joked with Westy, I just need a set of traffic lights and I'd be all set.

I did not in that run go for 3rd, thats holding 2nd right out to the drop off.

I held 1st to somewhere in the 40's where a slow change/coupled with a higher entry point to 2nd means a big drop in times I guess.

The funny thing is we thought Ian's would be better low down, has a boost spike and mine top end, these results turn that all on it's head, so the final test is for Ian to go for a drive in mine, after all there is quick and there's driving pleasure.

At the end of the day, any chip from anybody should give a marked improvment in measurable figures like this on paper, but it's the drive what counts. Now from my limited drive in Ian's I'd say his was more fun, I'll leave his view on mine till later I guess.

Having driven Ian's, I'd like to drive yours Colin, for comparative purposes of course. Let me know which track I can drive it in my "gentle" fashion on.

I am of course totally impartial, oh, and opento bribes!
