What does vRS stand for?

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me what does vRS stand for. I presume RS stands for Rally Sport?

But whay does the v stand for? Volkswagen?? Nah can't be because it's a Skoda.

Any help appreciated

Victory, IIRC. They had to introduce it as Ford refused to grant a licence to use 'RS' in the UK. I'm sure there's a post explaining it in full somewhere on here :D

Chris

RS stands for Rally Sport.

Apparently Skoda were taken to court by Ford for this (infringement), after the legal stuff they added the small v for "victory".

The dealer here still insists on calling it an RS.

My question is, if the court decision gave Skoda victory, why did they rename it to vRS from RS?

Oh well......

I assumed that the reason they rebranded is because they lost the court case!!!

So what's the point in going to court, winning and then not using the name that you've invested huge amounts of money trying to obtain rights to

I prefer the RS badge as opposed to the vRS one.

Thank you to all peeps who answered

skoda deffo won the court case Chris

I read that too:D

Didn't they win it because Skoda had actually used it many many moons ago when they were top dogs (well before my time then) and Ford had actually used it after so many years on the RS1600's etc?

Hence, Skoda used it first, Ford used it second, Ford lost court case.

Although no-one can actually remember when Skoda used "RS" and everyone nowadays associates RS with Fords.

Very Rapid Skoda :)

The "v" was sticking 2 fingers up to Ford

value RS

Skoda reckons it means Victory in Rally Sport , I still call them an 'RS' when I am speaking about them , I just use vRS on here as everyone knows what you're on about then.

it's only in the UK it's called vRS, probably for simplicity and to defuse the argument with Ford UK even if they won, and it sets it apart from everything else (how many cars are badged GTI, as well as a few called RS?).

In reality, the green V is just the motorsport logo taken fron the accent on the S, but in reality it sounds good to have a poncy management speak answer to everything now, hence the 'victory'

I couldent think of a better way to rub Fords nose in it. Ford takes you to court to stop you putting RS on your cars. You win the case and can put RS on your cars then just to rub salt in the wound you dont bother using it at all :-)

I always thought vRS meant Vexing Random Stutter - at least thats what a lot of posts indicate ......!!!

All the best

Norfolk Skoda :D
