Cost to have 2nd Rear Foglight turned on

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just to throw petrol on the smouldering fire!

The problem is not the fog lamps themselves, its the people who either think its cool to have them on, or forget to turn them off. The number of people who think Rain = Fog or don't understand that visability MUST be below 100m before they are turned on in this country is unbelieveable. It just goes to show people are not concentrating on their surroundings and are therefore driving without due care and attention.

Now the contentious bit!

Why people think its 'cool' to drive with front fog lamps on is beyond me, what do they think it proves? The ones who claim they are driving lamps are just showing their ignorance regarding the vehicle they drive.

Sorry! I have wanted to get that off my chest for a while.

Cheers.

Dibbley, I agree with everything you said.

Me too

OK. So we've got this:

PNLD REF NO D5577

NARRATIVE Schedule 11, Part I of the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 provides the requirements in relation to the number and position of obligatory rear fog lamps on vehicles.

and this:

2. POSITION.

2(a) LONGITUDINAL:

At or near the rear of the vehicle.

2(B) LATERAL:

(i) Where one rear fog lamp is fitted.

Position of rear fog lamp: On the centre-line or off side of the vehicle (disregarding any sidecar forming part of a motor bicycle combination).

(ii) Where two lamps are fitted.

Position of rear fog lamps: No requirement.

Which would seem to say tht if you have 2 fog lamps they could be positioned anywhere - even on the left side 2 inches apart? Seems pretty self-contradictory to me!

i thought the octy had two operational rear fog lights, does it not?

Nope, just the one.

Even worse - I've seen cars with Xenon headlights, but instead of using those nice powerful lights, they have their sidelights and fog lights on, even when it's dark enough to need their lights on properly!

That I really don't understand.

On the plus side, I find the "driving around with side and fog lights" style of driving doesn't seem to affect many Octy owners.

Yes it does but by default only one is enabled which is the subject of this thread.
