How can I open the door?

Featured Replies

My NSR door lock motor needs to be replaced but unfortunately the door is locked and, due to the faulty lock motor, cannot be unlocked. Is the a manual override system that I can use to open the door or will it have to visit the stealers?

Any help would be much appreciated

I thought that if the door is locked, 2 pulls on the door handle will open it (1 pull to unlock and 2nd pull to open) that is unless you have got you child locks engaged???

I've tried the two pulls method and no, the child locks are not engaged. Any other suggestions??

A friend of mine has just developed the same problem. I would be interested to hear about solutions/cost so I can help them out.

I still cannot open the door and it's flatly refusing to unlock so I currenly have a 3 door superb. Next service I'll get it looked at but I don't understand how they'll be able to get the door card off if they cannot open the door. Surely there's a manual method of opening it????

Standard method is to take the door off its hinges. It's a bitch of a job and a common B5.5 Passat problem - for some reason it's usually the LH rear door.

I passed this info onto my mate and he has already been to Hortons of Lincoln for a quote. He was quoted roughly

it'd be cheaper to crash it :)

Get the door trim off and smash the door lock apart from inside so you can disengage the dead lock.

even if you destroy the trim it'd be cheaper, find a door lock and a new door trim from a breaker then destroy it and smash the door lock as Mr.Guru says :)

I would not recommend smashing the latch - they're surprisingly strong and are made to be burst resistant in an accident. Given the non-standard rear doors on the Superb (B5.5 Passat trims won't fit) destroying the trims would be expensive.

If you look at the rear door hinges from the front door aperture, there are only 2 bolts holding the door on, both of which are accessible. The fun starts after you have taken these out. The striker plate won't come free of the latch as it's a burst proof design.

The options are to use a right angle torx driver to remove the striker plate which will still be very inaccessible and very tight, or to put a really good Sandvik blade in a padsaw and saw off the striker "hoop" thus freeing the door. Doing it this way, the only bit destroyed is the striker - and a B5.5 part from a breaker will fit. Protect the paint carefully whilst you are doing this. These doors are pretty heavy.

When they normally go on the Octavia 1 the door trim just pulls off once the phillips screws have been removed from the handle (partly why they are just poppered on). Once the trim is off a long screwdriver up onto the back of the latch where the dead lock motor is. Couple of taps on the plastic part abive the motor and you can get onto the rod. Flick it over and the door is open.

Done one or two. Usually just needs a new door latch.

Audi TT's were alot of fun, usually happens when a bodyshop has done some work and over adjusted the bowden cable to the handle.

suppose it would be useless to hook up a really powerful DC source direct to the motor? I mean like 2 car batteries in series to give a full 24V - perhaps that would temporarily shock the motor into unlocking??? (got the idea from a cardiac ward......)

Just a suggestion....

Usually the rod on the dead lock goes over centre and cant return. The motor (one of them tiny little jobbies like you find in an electric toothbrush) cant get it back across.

When I spoke to the dealer (Pilling - Milton Keynes) they suggested about

I obviously know the chaps at Pilling and the master tech there, he taught me how to get them open so he knows how to do it with the least amount of damage.

I know that on the Octavias you can get the torx screws out with the door closed, you need to give yourself some room by pulling the door seal away and use a torx bit with a pair of long nose pliers. It just takes time - which at a dealer will cost.
