management system light

Featured Replies

Sorry, new to the site and not entirely sure where to type message for help. Daughter has a Fabia 1.4 8v. Tonight management system light came on. She has no idea what to do. Came on as she was driving. Drove home carefully and doesnt seem to have affected the running. She lives in Glasgow and has no mechanical knowledge at all. She intends to to contact dealer, Queensborough, tomorrow . Any views on what questions she should be asking them. I fear she might be seen as a walking cheque book the minute she walks into a dealers. There are probably many references to this problem but am trying to navigate site at same time as advising her. Any advice gratefully received.

the engine management light could come on for any number of reasons , the dealer will most likely put it on their diagnostic equipment and read the fault codes , this shouldn't take more than 0.5-1.0 hours , they should then be able to tell you wants caused the light to come on , its probably only a sensor

Hello and welcome

I have a 1.4 8V and am also a walking chequebook LOL. My light comes on if the battery is low - there's a pretty big drain from using the air conditioning on top of the usual lights, fan and radio, especially if the car is mainly being used for short journeys. I'd also recommend checking the oil and coolant levels in any case.

As said, a Skoda dealer will have the equipment to run a diagnostic check. If it is only a sensor, it can still be costly (fitted, inc VAT), e.g.

Funny, I posted lately with the same problem, see here.

if the car was within 3 years old would skoda check this under warranty

yes they should check it free of charge under warranty

Ok hope this of use. Myne came on and off for no apparent reason then with power steering warning, and flickering lights sorted by skoda with power steering sensor. Then heating realted what a pain still not fixed but sufficent to say it seems so sensitive to anything at all. If still under warratny have it checked. apparently the above faults are main culprits tho

Funny, I was looking through for a thread on this.

I get the power assisted steering light come on for no apparent reason and then if I ignore it after 10 minutes or so it goes off. So, are you saying its due to a low battery - could be as I do a lot of short journeys.

One of the above replies says.... "probably only a sensor". I too had this "probably only a sensor" warning light, and it cost £750 to repair.

This did include a service right enough, "probably £100 or so", so it "probably" wasn't to bad.

Aye that'll be right !!!!!!!!!!

£750 Jesus mine had cost the warrranty company (autoprotect) more than he warranty cost me been back few times for same fault. Heating sensor replaced 3 times by skoda, then by garage then whole thermostat replaced sensors cost about £100 roughly so 2 changes plus a thermostat should be more than £300 what I paid for extra waranty. However I am not sure if it was a Skoda fault but think it a fault of the garages that did the work and to think one of them a Skoda dealer. David Ian skoda at Morecambe My management light been on more than once for different faults onw was power steering so glad i bought the warranty now.

I have a problem with the water pump on mine which Im gettin replaced this week. Mines a 1.4 8v too. My engine management light comes on cuz of this problem and also when I get a bit leadfooted.
