Do you want good grip or good tyre wear characteristics?

I run Michelin Pilot Exalto's and have been pleased with the change from the Conti's it came with

Dry grip appears the same, wet grip much better

Wear / noise similar

Do a search.

Then make sure you stay away from Pilot Primacys as they are they are some of the worst tyres I have ever had.

Really? I had them on my last 2 cars and they were spot on. Had difficulty breaking traction with them and they lasted well.

The Primacy's are better than the Conti's and the Primacy's are rubbish ;) Pirelli P Zero's seem highly thought of and I quite like the Pilot Sports I've had too :D

Chris

Zero's for me next. Toyo t1R's are good and last around 20K.

Toyos get very good 'user feedback' ratings on several tyre (sale) sites I've visited - they provide links to German Tyretest.com etc.

So, too, do the Hankook Ventus I've just had fitted - too early to tell of characteristics except they are a lot quieter than the Michelins they replaced.

Tyre summer : tyre selling summer any brand

also mytyres.co.uk - go to Tyretest.com link for the tyre you're interested in.

Hmm...I might try the Toyo's next. I was gonna go for Primacy's but everyone seems to say the Toyos are better. Blackcircles stock them I think.

not on the track they don't :D

very grippy tyre though until they get too hot

Kumho's? I got the ECSTA SPT KU31's @ £52 a corner...

Cheap, and great imo...

mytyres.co.uk quite a bit cheaper for most tyres

another vote for toyo tyres from me too!

I need 4 tyres urgently and was thinking about the Eagle GSD3 F1's but was stunned at the £80+ a corner price. My Scoob on 17's were about the same so thought on the smaller wheels they'd be cheaper :(

Do any of the alternatives offer at least as good wet performance for less?

16" is a none std size for tyres apparently hence you might find it to be more expensive/as expensive as 17's

I suggest you visit the two links I posted earlier in this thread - there are user reports from large databases there.

That's what the guy in the tyre place said, thought it was the usual sales pitch.

I asked if there was a better deal for four tyres, nope.

Thought I should mention I have got 30,000 on the original tyres which I thoght was pretty good!

:)

What did you do - put it on a C-130 and have it flown around the world twice ?

30k (on a vRS ?) !!!!!!

I had Hankook Ventus on my "old" VRs & couldn't fault em...

Funny thing is I changed the Contis on my wifes MG TF cos I didn't like em, when I got the new VRs in Dec guess what it had on.........Contis..!!!!!!!

Good to hear about the Hankook.

Like I said, too soon yet + the bad weather - though I have 'prodded' them into one or two bends in the wet and they've been fine.

A good all rounder grip is important but decent wear also wanted?...

I changed the Continentals Sport Contacts to Toyo T1-Rs.

Didn't like the Continentals as they were too hard, which didn't inspire confidence levels.

The Toyos have good grip in the dry or wet & I have currently 15K miles on them with approx 5K miles left. They're a good all rounder @ a reasonable price.

I know, amazing mileage on the factory fitted tyres but I drive the vRS pretty sensibly and save the rally antics for the Scoob, best of both Worlds.

Thanks for the help BTW :)

Did you mean little ol me ?

If so - pleasure.

Ain't doing much else - so why not help out a fellow nutter.

BTW ours is a 16k 04 Fabia vRS with Michelins on all round - owned by a lady - and the fronts were all but done.

To get 30k had you rotated the tyres ?

Or really put the vRS in a C-130.

How did you know I had my own air transportation? :)

I rotated the tyres on each service. The fronts scrub the outermost part of the tyres quite quickly. I'm sure the current tyres are legal but only just and in the snow yesterday I couldn't get it out of the drive so got in to the scoob and just drove off but with the kids to feed and bigger house looming I can't afford to take that on the long journeys that I do anymore!

Most of my miles are on the motorway so do less traffic light starts etc than the average driver which may have contributed to the lifespan. Wet handling on the standards are rubbish which is why I was thinking of the F1's. My only issue with the F1's are in the first 1,000 miles they tend to be a bit squirmy while they bed in.
