Advice needed buying a new Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi there, I'm a new member so just bear with me!

At present I have a 55 plate Alfa GT coupe 1.9 diesel, which is a great car except we have a seven month old baby. I have finally got fed up of putting the push chair into the boot and then having no space for anything else, and also my wife putting her back out every time she lifts the baby seat in!!!

Anyway to cut a long story short, I have narrowed down my next car to a brand new Octavia vRS diesel.

The dealership has offered me

I've recently bought a 9 month old vRS estate that had the "extras" I wanted. I had looked to buy new and was told by 3 dealers that I could expect at least 8% off list which is a good start. If they knock 8% off the extras as well and waive the silly delivery/UK registration charge and include 12 months tax then the price will be keen. You could spec up a car on "drivethedeal" and ask the dealers to see if they can match or get close to their price which will be about as low as you can probably get without stealing one....

Big advice - don't order the SATNAV from the dealer get one from eBay -

Octavia-vRS.com - MFD2 Install Guide

Also if you can get one with MaxiDot that is well worth the money.

Thanks both, do you know if the dealer could retro fit Maxi dot if it doen't have it fitted already?

It can't be retrofitted. It's part of the dash pod.

LOL, you didn't wont much did you ;)

I was in the same dilema but i had a MINI Cooper S JCW although it was a fantastic car the VRS is more than making up for the small drop in performance by pure practicallity and ease of use

You might try talking to Progress Skoda in Bedford.

They have a vRS TDI hatch in Black Magic pearl with, SatNav (I think, but if not easily fitted), 18" B14 style wheels (fantastic plain 5 spoke), Climate/Jumbo but not rear parking sensors (although this can also be after fitted) as demonstrator.

I'm not sure when they would be willing to part with it though, as it was new at the beginning of January.

Thanks for that Bahnstormer, I think I might give the dealer in Bedford a call.

A pleasure; you can get them on 01234 348242.

I'm planning to order a vRS TDI from them shortly with 'B14' 18" wheels, Xenons, rear parking sensor and heated seats. I don't need/want SatNav and I find the Jumbo box gets in the way of my left elbow when changing gear/using the handbrake, so won't be ordering that either.

Unless you definitely want the TDI they also have an '06' vRS Estate TFSI which was their demo car with all the toys and going for sensible money.

Personally I want to TDI 'cos 1) I like the TORQUE, 2) I do 18-20,000 miles a year so want the fuel economy, and 3) It is a Company car so the Tax is less!

Yeah I'm after the TDi, I don't seem to make any short journeys, mainly long journeys at the weekends.....I think this is where the TDi really comes into it's own.

Talk to lots of dealers before placing your order.

I paid under £17K for a brand new vRS Tdi just before Christmas from the Skoda Dealer in Gloucester. 18" wheels, dual zone climate, 12months tax and 1/2 a tank of diesel. Some dealers are meeting their targets and don't care if they sell cars or not. Others are having problems and are happy to discount in order to reach their targets. Sell the Alfa privately and spend a morning on the telephone.

To be honest I can't really be bothered with the hassle of selling the Alfa privately. And

One thing you may want to do is print out what you can get the car for off Drive the Deal or Broadspeed off the t'interweb and take that with you and ask them to match or get close to it, that's what i did and he near enough matched it for me and gave the going rate for my old car.

If they won't do a deal you are happy with shop at a different dealer, at the end of the day it's your hard earned you're parting with after all.

Good Luck

Thanks Kenney, I've just asked for a quote off Broadspeed.

Sorry, im a beginner/numpty. What is the function of the jumbo box?

The Jumbo Box is pretty much a centre armrest.

Thanks for everyones help, will keep you all posted with the deal I manage to get on Saturday morning.

with 'B14' 18" wheels

What's them, then? Any pics...?

They are 5 spoke similar to the 17" Pegasus BUT with sculptured edges to the vanes and highly polished. 8J rim width; standard option 18" Zeniths are I think 7.5J.

I'm seeing my dealer who has a set on their vRS demo on Monday and will take my Camera!

Just to let you all know how I got on Saturday morning......On the way to Skoda garage I called in at the Alfa Romeo dealership (Evans Halshaw), to get there part-ex value for my car.

They said it would be about £14200 on a new Alfa, which gutted me a bit losing £10,000 in eighteen months! The Glasses guide also said it was worth about £14,400 trade in.

When I sat down with Skoda, the dealer straight away offered me £15,300 which I though was a good start. They had a black vRS hatch diesel which looked really nice, and they said they would be able to sort me out a good price on this vehicle. But after seeing the race blue version I was quite keen to have this colour.

In the end they had to take one that was allocated to another dealer. So on 9th of Feb I pick up a vRS Octavia Hatch diesel, Race blue, 18inch alloys, Jumbo pack, Mats and Sat nav.

All this for my car (£15,300), plus £4785,00 OTR, which I didn't think was too bad after they had given me an extra grand for my trade in.

One final thing is they are having an independent VAG specialist come in to fit the Sat Nav at the dealership as the car didn't have one fitted at the factory. All of the sales reps and the manager assure me that it will make no difference that the car hasn't got a Maxi dot fitted. But I'm sure I read on this forum that it can lead to some problems. Can anybody help?

I have retrofit satnav without maxidot. No problems whatsoever, but you do lose some functionality. With maxidot, the direction is shown between your dials (ooer) as well as on the satnav display. Without maxidot screen, this is not possible. I'd love to have it, but to be honest I know what "second exit" on a roundabout looks like so it's no massive loss...
