What bike rack for Fabia vRS?

Featured Replies

What bike rack for two 'normal' cheapish mountain bikes does anyone recommend for the Fabia vRS? (06 model, not that there's much difference I think)

Roof mount? Thing strapped on the back?

Ideally I would like convenience (easy to get bikes on and off, easy to remove or at least not too annoying if left on without bikes) and obviously not real chance of damaging paintwork.

Ta for any thoughts :)

I got a pair of Thule bike carriers & Skoda roof bars last year.

There was a thread kicking about somewhere. I'll see if I can find it.

You don't wanna go for hatch mount racks, as this will put stress on the spoiler.

one ones that go on your boot can bend them as previously known :o roof racks are the best !

If you can roof mount then I'd go down that route, saves bikes ever touching back of car (pedals especially), and it's legal without having to do light board.

Got Thule Aero (Aluminium)bars and Atera Giro bike holders for my superb. They all lock in position with keys and so can be left in place when not in use short term.

Once you get bars and feet sorted first time, it takes maybe 10 min's to fix on and bikes less than a minute each

Reckoned long term it was best option, as tow ball can't be taken to new car, and would just need to get new feet adaptors for a different car for the Thule bars.

Did have rear rack (Hollywood 3 bike) but bikes pedals ended up hitting car, and it took too long to get the bikes secure after a ride, which is where I wanted to save time.

All in it was

Cool, thanks for the help  Roof mount it is :)

Another vote for roof mount here.. much easier :)

Towbar, clip-on bike carrier, any speed you like, doesn't affect cornering.

Hate carrying bikes on roofs, in a car that want's to be driven, and I can park in carparks with overhead barriers, to stop the pikey vans being in there.

Doesnt matter that you have to lean against the car though

i have one that goes on the back, much easier to put the bikes on/off. i use a decathlon one.

just make sure it has two straps to the top of the boot, one to each side, and two to the bottom.

The vRS has a spoiler on the top of the boot lid though, I certainly wouldn't want to put all that weight on to it..

I wouldn't either, the best solution is a tow bar rack but the rack could be more than one bike!

I didn't want to put a tow bar on my Furby though, thats why I went for a roof rack, also means i still have easy access to the boot pre and post ride etc :)

Towbar

Unfortunately you aren't allowed to fit a towbar to the Fabia vRS AFAIK, it isn't type approved for it, so this would invalidate the car insurance if you do. Sounds another good idea though ta.

I went for the skoda fabia basic roof bars and 2 x 591 ProRide after recommendations I think using the thread you were given.

The only problem i've had is getting those little black clips back into the roof when I take the bars off. In the end i've left them off as it was annoying me so much.

Thule Cycle Racks - Roof Mounted

I got the roof bars from my Skoda dealer.
