3.5mm Jack

Featured Replies

Just a quick question does the vRS without a jumbo box come with the 3.5mm jack or not. Just need to know cos if it doesn't i need to buy an iTrip for my iPod.

Also ordered my car today pick it up at end of march so the countdown has begun YIPPPPEEEEEEE (i'm like a kid waiting for xmas now!!!):D:P:thumbup:

IIRC the jumbo box does have a 3.5mm jack point.

Or you could add the jumbo box to your order. Well worth it and may make it more desirable at resale.

I am guessing not as the jack is in the jumbo box. Check with your dealer.

A valid question but one I think you will find difficult to have answered on here as most have the 'Jumbo' pack fitted. As previously stated get your dealer to confirm one way or the other.

Hi Mater -

The answer to your question is 'NO' :thumbdwn:

I have a new TDi Vrs. The sound system does come with 'AUX-IN' as standard, therefore i took the stereo out to see if there was an input on the back - IT DOESN'T.......... BUT......

the stereo does have the wiring diagram for all the appropriate leads for the rear input and 'DOES' show which 3x wires to use (currently not occupied) for LEFT,RIGHT & EARTH.

I tried sourcing some correct metal inserts to accept into the plug/sysytem, but those i found were not small enough to insert.

I decided to insert the 3x seperste wires after just stripping them bare and inserted them through the appropriate allocations and terminated these on a 2 metre lead with a 3.5mm stereo jack. HEY PRESTO - it works a treat with FULL stereo facilities and with all functions from the 'AUX-IN' menu.

This was a self-fit and i'd like to just recommend that unless you are prepared and confident to do this yourself, then get someone to do it who are!

You may benefit also from the self-fit ipod adaptor info, as per VrsSTU's website - Octavia-vRS.com - Ipod Adaptor

Please contact me via PM if you would like any further info - ok

Cheers, John.

I think I've got some of the termination pins in the garage John.

If you need the number let me know.

hi john,

Thanks for the advice. However being a soldier im no good at ripping bits put of cars, fiddling about with them then putting them back in again and they work :o. Last time i did something like that i had a 2001 octavia 2.0 GLXI i tried to install my kenwood mp3 headunit and 10 disc changer. It took me seven hours, about 3kg of solder and a roll of electrical tape to get it to work and the following happened.

1st go - volume control operated heated rear screen(foooook knows how i did that)

2nd go - ended up with built in in-car smoke machine!!!!

3rd go - head unit worked cd changer wouldnt

4th go - cd changer worked head unit wouldnt recognise mp3

5th go - no sound from rear speakers

6th go - all working ok started work at 1pm finished at 8pm (much too wifes dismay after i told her it would only take me half an hour!!!)

so i reckon ill just stick with an i-trip or ill just make MP3 discs. Maybe if i get brave one sunday and i can get someone who is electrically minded to help i might give it a go. Unless you fancy a trip to germany ;)

What Stereo did yours come with ? Was it the Newer or the Original Stream. I'd love to know if this would work on the Original Stream units.

Click the MFD2 install link Colm and you'll see the pin outs have changed.

Click the MFD2 install link Colm and you'll see the pin outs have changed.

I was more interested in the Original Stream and if the method stroker1 used would work with the original Stream Unit, using the CD R, L & Gnd for example. Or is it just a non-runner.

Like I said - Click the link!! :P

Scroll down and you will find pin outs not only for the MFD2 but Stream and Stream MP3.

I seen the link and pin outs, stroker1 uses the 'AUX-IN' L, R and Earth, I wanted to know if the CD L, R & Earth would also give the same results , as mine doesn't have the AUX ones :)

Probably being really dense here, but my 06 plate octy vrs has the jumbo box option but doesnt seem to have the aux socket as the one in my local dealer's had.

Is it hidden elsewhere in the car? Had a good look but no luck so far. If it is missing I will be annoyed as this is why I specified the jumbo box in the first place.

If you have green brake calipers you won't have it. It was a revision for the 2007MY.
