Rear Drums

Featured Replies

Ok, so just about to change the Front Disc/Pads - then the rear drums start grinding, all the time - not just when braking:mad:

So, I've gone to take the drums off to see if it just needs a clean, new parts etc - but drum refuses to come off (yep have taken out the screw). Now refering to the fountain of all knowledge (the haynes manuel ) It says there is a cam or something that I can lever with a screw driver etc - makes taking them off easier. But looking through the holes for the wheel nuts - I'm blowed if I can see anything.

Any suggestions?

Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi GLX Estate (1999) - if that helps

A rubber mallet was the best bit of kit i used when doing my discs and brakes.

there is a wedge key that can be levered down to release the shoe from the drum... you may need a torch to see in tho.... on the left hand one it's in the top right corner... and on the right hand one it's in the top left corner.... you may need to spin the drum slightly to getthe hole for the wheel nut over the wedge key.... if it wont move screw in two wheel bolts and use a long screwdriver as a lever to turn the drum

Thanks - the haynes manual says levered up, and makes not difference between left/right handed parts - don't suppose you have a pic/diagram - so I know what I'm poking at through the hole

Thanks in advance
