What intercooler were the comments referring to?

e-bay one i have already ordered.

Who from?

Ah, i see in the previous page. The bloke has 100% feedback for many hundreds of his products. I would at least take a look and fit the thing before worrying too much.

sorry

Just because the chap has 100% feed back, does not mean that the intercooler is right for the Octy, as quoted earlier, too much or too little air going through has a bad effect on the running and performance of the car.

By the time the Flea-Bay intercooler is bought and paid for, pipes and hoses made up, and again paid for as a seperate item, its a bit late to find out that the Flea-Bay designer did his calulations on the back of a fag packet, especially if they were wrong and ruin the performance of the car.

Forge, ABD, Allard etc all invest a lot of time and money to get a specific item for a specific car, and then field test it to make sure the air flow rates are correct before putting it on the market.

So, when those mentioned above market an intercooler for each specific car, how can a fit all intercooler be the answer to every car????????

Oh, and I run the ABD Racing FMIC and cannot fault it, but as before Forge, Allard etc all make top quality products.

I see what youre saying but the only real figures youd need is the internal volume of the Jabba, Forge IC and find a similar one with internal capacity, i.e. On Vauxhall Turbo engines (C20LET) its common practice to replace the stock intercooler with a Frontera one which is around 3 litres in capacity and fit it as a front mount. What Im trying to get at is if you do some simple sums you could save yourself hundreds by buying from a big name.

ie eBay.co.uk: Frontera Intercooler c20let (item 180082512331 end time 11-Feb-07 23:56:28 GMT)

Whilst I can understand your trying to save money on a D-I-Y job, I still think that your better going with a known item that is designed specifically for a specific model, I cannot see the point of spending a lot of money getting the car remapped/tip/dv/ etc, only to have that performance robbed by the wrong intercooler, and all for the sake of a few quid.

Horses for courses, and sorry, but my money is with a known tuner on this one, who offer a full back up service.

Would you send your car to be remapped knowing that you were only going there for an inferior map because it was cheap, when the remapper down the road was a few quid dearer, but delivered the goods as promised?

I don't think you can just compare volumes....FMIC has got to flow correctly and the type of core is also important.

I used to post up a link on FMIC design when this type of question/discussion has been previously raised...can't remember remember where the link is. :o

i'd be interested in that adrian.

beretta,its not a few quid,its a few hundred(nearly 1k fitted with vat/time off work/fuel etc etc).

i try and do most of my car myself so i could count out the fitting part.

i am just a little disheartened that when asked "the pro's" didn't really want to answer a simple question( a pm off forum would of done for me ).

i wasn't even naming what intercooler the spec was off, just a general opinion.

but they have said sorry ,so thats ok

Well let us know how you get on as mentioned you could stand to save a packet if it works ok.

sent it back.haven't really got the time, speccing the hoses means at least the same amount again,as hoses from work were"not quite" up to the job.

i'm working weird shifts from now on, and an hour or so just to fit my brakes and TIP is becoming hard to find.so a project like this would be a few days work.

maybe to find in the end that it does jack schmit and loses power/more money.

the cooler did look good to the untrained eye, good quality materials, and welds

but i guess i just bottled it.

2 kids and a wife to support.might well be a single mans project:thumbup:

Doh!!
