vw sharkfin aerial

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted the vw sharkfin aerial to their fabia? How easy was it? is there any difference in radio reception?

It will be p1$$ poor, dont bother.

Have you tried one then?

If the VW sharkfin aerial reception is that bad I doubt VW would fit it to their cars.

Have you tried one then?

All the reports of retro fitting that I have read indicate so :)

I have seen one report on here where there was a problem with the connector and one on a US website which says it's good.

Have you seen more?

I'm not saying it is good or bad but if you are going purely on the report in the thread on here then I don't think it's a representitive opinion.

If you have a try of the search function, you will not only find the answer you seek - but you will save a small polar bear from drowning.

IMO, I would fit one regardless of radio reception as I never use the radio, only my 'ard drive and then feel smug in the knowledge that my car looks very sexy:cool:

The BMW shark fin's and a hudge amplifer that pulls the signal inn hence why there shark fin works. Been told this by my ice installer, due to me wanting one. The aftermarket Shark fins look good and fit well, but are 100% crap at pulling in a signal. He said if i could get hold of a BMW shark fin system then that could be fitted to my furby vrs but would cost a crap load.

Do you have one fitted Stu?

No and I'm not 'picking a fight' I just wouldn't want someone to not buy one based on the single review we've seen here which didn't work too well as the plug was cut off.

I have to agree with Stu. A little knowledge is more dangerous than none at all

However if it were a good mod there would have been a spate of them done by now. I antcipate the technical difficulties associated with fitting a decent shark fin would be huge but not completely overwhelming.

It all depends on how much you want to make your car look like a Fabia with a cheap add on.

I have one idea unsure it this is right. next year iam going to get DAB and the two/three aerials are fitted in the roof liner so maybe i/you could remove the stock aerial and replace with a shark fin, or just remove it completely. As it wouldnt be needed.

Must admit removing it completely sounds even better to me :D - any links to the product(s) you are considering to show these aerials?

As long as the aerial has the in-built booster and this is powered then I can't see the reception being worse than the standard. I would agree with Stu on this one, lets not get heavy but damning them after a single report is a bad news :(

A more interesting obversation would be do they look good, will they clear the notched spoiler on the boot lid?

It should clear it quite well as it doesn't get anywhere near it :)

Cool, always been a 'bee-stinger' myself so wouldn't think of changing it. Having to drop the headlining would be a slut :(

I have an alpine screen and by me adding TV I get DAB and to make it all work i get these Aerials which i have been told fit under the headliner. So iam guessing you can buy the aerials seperate ill try find out abit more.

Thanks that would be cool :)
