Thank You and Hello!

Featured Replies

This is my first post!

I just wanted to say thank you for all your help. This site, the people on it and the links have been brilliant.

I'll be frank, I really thought long and hard before ordering my first ever brand new car, a Skoda Octavia vRS. I had my eye on the usual batch of likely contenders to replace my Mark lV Golf GTi 1.8 Turbo. The Audi A4, Mark V Golf GTi, 3 Series Beamer etc. However, I did the research and never ruled out the Skoda as an option. It was just the perhaps, shall we say, misguided badge insecurity that held me back.

At the end of the day, as 'what's his face' said in "2001 A (boot) Space Oddessey" It is all clear to me now! After a drive of the vRS and a sensible deal from Mitchel's Skoda I have ordered a new Magic Black vRS today! (added 18s and the maxi-dot, and avoided the temptation to go options crazy to keep the price down).

I am simply delighted with my decision. The car will allow me to keep smiling whilst catering for the needs of a new son.

I am the type of forum member who is liable to pontificate at great length regarding the exact thought processes involved in my choice of cars and find myself unable to, as Shakespeare put it, "Deliver a round unvarnished tale" ("Othello"). So I'm holiding back on my massive enthusiasm for the vRS in this my first post. But at least you have been warned for future posts! :)

All I really wanted to say was thank you for helping me feel that I am part of a growing group of enthusiasts, who judge cars on their merits and not preconceptions or a slight 'raise of the eyebrows' when the words new Skoda are uttered in the presence of pretentious middle management monkeys who crave a sense of social conformity to group norms established by the tedium of dirving a BM. (sorry, no offence if you are one of those kinda people, but those cars just leave me cold!)

You have helped me immensely in making the decision which is right for me!

It is worth noting that if you are reading this thread, as I was, browsing this forum over the last few days to search for 'answers' and advice when making the little step over to Skoda, then all you need to do is do as I did. Book a test drive and see for yourself. You will want one and you wont want to be forking out for anything else! And you will be different, an individual of sorts, and that matters!

Here endeth the thanks!

Marwood.

Welcome, and I hope you enjoy your car. :)

Thinking of upgrading my Fabia Vrs to the Octavia Vrs, hope you got a good deal

All the best

Tony

Cheers Tony,

Yeah was happy with the deal got an 8% reduction on list price and fro the options. The trade on My Golf was ok I think, given it's age and miles. Guy was in the showroom after me. He had a big silly grin after test driving a new Fabia vRS!

Thanks mluton, the forum is great!

My favourite film.....

Nice one M.A.C

Mine two.

When I had a Polo G40 "'as a youth'' (as Monty says refering to crying episodes in butcher's shops) I had the line "A trained actor reduced to the status of a bum" on the rear screen. Only quite small in red to match the car's paintwork. Those in 'the know' seemed to like it. You can always tell a person's character given his choice of fave film. (and car! LOL)

"Nuts in May" anyone?

No, I didn't know about that and I must agree that it would be nothing more than a money making exercise, akin to Skoda charging £450 for 18s to replace the standard 17s on the vRS. Hardly like 'installing a jukebox to liven the stiffs up' :)!

If I may be theatrical for a moment......putting the film on the stage would be to undermine it's links to "Hamlet" (one of the best readings of the 4th soliloquy is delivered by Grant in the film and where the film makes a nod in the direction of beckett's "Waiting for Godot", a stage version would turn the film into a vaudaville rendition of Beckett's pensive (and let's face it tedious) original work. Subtlelty would go out of the window etc etc.....and anyway who would they get to play Danny?

As Danny said "How long can you hold onto a rising balloon?" The answer is of course just long enough to keep the film a classic and not turn it into some bag of s**te! Apparently they're selling BMW wigs at woolworths now.

Appologies for my pretention here, and for wandering off topic! If you aint seen the film like me and M.A.C this will appear "absolute twaddle"! LOL

...and in these times of politically correct lunacy could the line be uttered 'Who's the huge spade in the bath ?'

The splendour of the lakeland scenery....the 'making time' scene....and are they surely going to import a ton of live, snorting Aberdeen Angus bull beef for the duration.

Utter unworkable sacrelidge.

We've made a play by mistake.....

Well this makes for intersting reading!!!! by the way on an unrealted point.....enjoy to RS!!!!!!!!!!!! welcome! (ah withnail and I) "I must have some booze. I demand to have some booze."

...pass the deep heat. Welcome to Briskoda

Spoke to Mitchels today. Looks like I'm going to have to wait for my new Octy. There is a black one knocking about but it lacks the Maxi-Dot so It will have to be ordered from the factory. Still at least it means that it will be on an 07 plate instead of a 56. Had a bit of a panic on last night cos I was wondering which part of the seats are leather. I had irrationally supposed (due to my 10 week old son screaming all the bloody time!....perhaps he wanted me to buy a Roomster?) that the black bits on the sides of the seats (boulsters..SP?) were made of some form of plastic material. This type of error is quite common at 3 in the

morning...apparently! Coming from full leather recaros in the golf I was thinking the worst.

Incidently, on the subject of leather perhaps Skoda will release a limited edition of the Octavia with full leather (like the Fabria soon) which will allow retro fitting on 'older' cars.

Thanks for the welcome pdhealy!
