0-60 time for Octavia vRS

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what the 0-60 time is for the Octavia vRS. I know the Skoda brochure says its 7.9 seconds, but I've found a couple of web sites that say its 6.7 seconds after doing their own tests. Check out www.carfolio.com. What do you think???

7.9 Stock perhaps.

6.7 is widly quoted from a press release, which was not stated, but since assumed to be from a chipped car....of course technique accounts for alot...I know my old car was as fast as Ians, but in 0-60 he was a second quicker, technique you see, I have none.

6.7 from 220bhp approx car?

I think the 6.7 comes from Autocar, who tested a red vRS (Freakcrab's own car in fact!)

Engine was widely regarded as "fettled with"

Autocar then tested a silver one against an Impreza WRX as the perfomance figures seemed very close - the WRX beat it fairly comfortably IIRC

I got 7.2...back to technique...FWD I expect a little slower but only if it were me, i.e. technique I see no reason these figures could not be matched, especially given the RS is longer gears. The 4x4 bounces of the rev limiter in 2nd at 60. :D

Interesting point. Do you know what the 4x4 will actually do in 2nd? I wasn't even sure it would quite make 60 (although I've never had it above 45 in 2 - I'm a wimp).

Not much over 60, maybe 65, but changing into 3rd lost more time.

Don't let colin be modest about technique, when we saw the graphs he had me nailed for launch, I just made it back with a quicker shift, if he could launch then I did the shift - we'd get under 6!!

what bhp are your 2 cars pushing?

The vRS will happily do 70 in second... well... maybe not happily but it will do it :D

Mine showed 222bhp\231lb ft on a very hot day in peterborough, colin's was never on the rollers but certainly similar.

I agree infact red line (hatched area ) at c 6500 is above an indicated 70 but not quite an indicated 80.

I have seen this question asked on a number of occasions and sure the 7.9 manufacturers figure and the 6.7 (Freakcrab car) do not tally.

Certainly having driven a 2.0 GTV with a 8.5 quoted 0-60 the Vrs in normal guise was in a completely different league.

There must be someone who has put this to the test with reasonable equipment and can give some stock and chipped figures.

I have a feeling that the 60-100 in third in a chipped one is up there with much more exotic machinery.

Senses the need for a data logger and a few packs of bluetack in April.

arh ha :D found it :D

Also would like to do this again with Stock vRS' date=' chipped and of course a vRS with more than chip...maybe a vRS with slicks aswell just to show what it really could do.[/quote']

Thanks I missed that thread , those figures are much more the 'feel' of the beasts.

Perhaps it would be worth trying to establish 'standard conditions' (puts his lab-coat on) so that there are reproducable results from wherever the tests are done . Ideas anyone?

Not wishing to be pedantic and all that but isnt the 7.9 figure oft quoted the 0 TO 62 time?I was under the impression that the Vrs 0 TO 60 was actually closer to 7.6 - 7.7?......not a lot of dif....but still ;).

SI units Rule OK! Kg-m-s and Star Radians?

yes 0-62 is 7.9 secs

I don't know why the 0-60 time is so important? 30-50 and 30-70 on the otherhand....

I bet a Tavia with a Jabbachip will see off a lot of other metal through the gears ;)

Myself & 1 or 2 others posted some "in-gear" times on the site a few months back, i was amazed at the results ;)

And you're correct, 0-60 is totally irrelevant and only serves to keep your tyre supplier happy

Agree, initial question was of course 0-62 and as 70 is max legal limits....

Need to find some private roads where AP22 dataloggers are permitted...I wantto try at a certain venue since we migth be able to have a test there...might not of course.

Indeed...

However, as the initial question appeared to have been answered, i was just expanding on Steve's point about the emphasis placed on 0-60 times... :)

It's something that's always made me wonder...bearing in mind that manufacturers 0-60 times are frequently done with a virtually empty car (back seats have been known to be absent) and a driver who weighs less than a gnat...

Was it Tiff Needel who said that the Imprezza WRX will do 0-60 in 5.5secs.........................................ONCE. Meaning that the car will destroy it's transmission. Aren't 0-60 tests fairly brutal with no sympathy for test car and in normal road driving you won't get near testers figures? David

I read somewhere that the whole 0-60 thing came from America in the 60's. The US freeways had a limit of 70mph in those days, and slip roads are very short. This meant that joining the freeway safely needed a car that accelarated pretty quickly, as busy freeways tended to be a steady stream of traffic, all doing 65mph.

Just some history for you..........

Had heard something similar - basically, they leave their foot on the accelerator for the whole test, just dipping the clutch and changing gear as necessary. Which can screw things up I believe... :D
