Turbo Failure?

Featured Replies

hello everyone. i'm new. got a bit of problem with my 2004 Fabia vRS. basically waited 3wks for collection of the car. only had the car 2 days, when it went bang, followed by plenty of smoke from the back, coughing and spluttering, lost all power. the car restarted fine, just as it should sounding sweet, but attempt to drive away and load the engine, it doesn't want to know. car covered on warranty, SkodaWhite Dove, Cardiff very apologetic, but i'm devastated my little Skoda has let me down after only 2 days. it's only 2 yrs old Dec2004, with 1 previous owner full history. is this a common fault or just a rare bit of misfortune. was i wise to get rid my Merc C Class Coupe for a Skoda? Please cheer me up with any good news available :(

I am sure you had your reasons for trading a Merc for a Fabia but so long as it is fixed with a nice new turbo then fine, but I would give the previous owner a ring to get some history on the car and make sure you get a nice long warranty with it,

Turbo's are not common but I am sure there is a couple on here that have had them done.

The syptoms you describe would fit the loss of an intercooler hose. They have been known to blow themselves off the couplings to the intercooler. Simple but possibly fiddly to fix.

Yes could be just the pipe blowing off as Bryand said

I agree......

my turbo has now done 70k and the car is running as good as it ever has...(when I get my new suspension bushes next week!) think my engine is just about run in now ;)

even if it is the turbo, you have a warranty, they'll fix it :)

Sounds like the pipework to me too. Had it happen to me on my first Fabia vRS, not even 24 hours old.

thanks to you all for your feedback. the more i hear the more i'm inclined to say it's pipework too. cheers everyone. she's going in Monday morning. let you all know the outcome.

Was it the pipe?

The pipe popping off is a common fault and is a roadside fix (as the AA patrol that repaired mine will confirm!).

Turbo failures aren't uncommon either though, but if it's under warranty I wouldn't be too concerned.

Hope so.

Mine popped this morning :(

I have a Vauxhall Tigra hire car

It only takes 5 mins to pop back in, never had one do it twice.

Hope so.

What, the pipe? It takes longer to raise the car and remove the undertray than it does to locate and reattach the pipe :)

Yeah, I checked this and got the fault code off it but it looks like turbo failure so it went back to the stealers via the AA.

No boost, white smoke and a lot of metallic sounding noise coming from the genral area of the turbo

Waiting to hear back from the "Experts"

White smoke could be oil - possibly the turbo's fallen apart and oil is burning up on the exhaust system somewhere.

Does the smoke smell really nasty?

Just heard back from them.

Turbo is dead, new one being fitted on friday under warranty :D

Hi mate

Due to your post and all the replies you have received about the possible causes why your TURBO blew, after owning a PUNTO GT i had to replace the turbo twice on it and its not cheap. Anyway i have a fabia VRS now JUST REMAPPED, so thanks for the heads everyone ill keep an eye on those intercooler hoses.

Do they have any idea why? Seems a bit worrying, assuming the car is standard :D

Chris

Of course it's standard!!!!

I haven't had any information back from then other than ready saturday afternoon at the latest. Ill get more info then but from what it sounded like it was either the bearing or the impeller. I should imagine they will have to replace the cat too ;)
