warm starting issue - DIESEL!

Featured Replies

Been running my Felicia diesel for a year now - I got it as a non runner and gave it a full service and new glow plugs and it been superb - but.....

Cold - starts great

Hot - Starts great

but .... when it is warm (about 60-70 degrees indicated) the glow plug indicator wont come on, but she wont start without churning over for about 10 seconds. Its a bit embarassing and bad for the Skoda image!!!

I tried a couple of things, but can only think its the control module - which is more than the car is worth to replace... how about a switch to isolate the temp sensor? (It works well - tried disconnecting the wire - glow plugs kicked in and she fired up first 'churn'). However I would prefer a proper fix.....

Anyone know if a bosch deisel pump can be used on the Felicia diesel engine (AEH?) ? If so which one...

the glow plug light wont come on if the engine is hot enough.

try half pressing the accelerator when warm starting.

I too have put up with the embarasssing warm start problem for far too long, until it recently got to a point where I had to wait for it to cool down before it would start. Then I discovered that when I parked on a slope and let it roll to jump start, it started immediately. So I went out and upgraded the battery from 60ah to 72ah and most importantly the starting amps from 550 to 630 and it is so much better. I have bought a sensor too but have not yet fitted it, but my thinking on that is that if it was faulty, it would be a problem when the engine is cold too!!! Hope this helps.
