as of today the glow plug light has started flashing whilst the car is running. just wondering if anybody has had this problem? is it expensive or hard to fix myself? or would i be better of taking it to my nearest skoda dealer?

Have a look at your brake lights first, could be a blown bulb or a faulty switch.
