Remap Advice

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of getting my Fabia VRS remapped. I do quite a lot of miles in it on the motorway and want a bit more oomph at top end, and possibly a bit more punch off the line. I'm worried about premature clutch wear though and also any other premature wear and tear. I live in Sheffield and I've heard that JBS in Chesterfield use custom code which seems to give the right characteristics for me.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you're a top-gear man on the m-way you will get clutch slip after a remap. I had a tuning box on mine and it slipped around 2k - 2.5k on the m-way in 6th. You learn to drive around it.

Alot of these remaps give a hugh increase in torque at the low end of the rev range as well as increase throughout. As long as you dont give it wot below 2.5Krpm your clutch/flywheel will be fine.

It's worth bearing in mind that any increase in torque/power will result in greater stress on mechanical components and early component failure. That is 100% guaranteed. Also your warranty will be null and void.

If you are nervous about this or you need your warranty and you want the car to last then don't do it. That said, if you want to see what the car should have been then get it done, you'll like the difference

I have a Custom Code remap in mine and it delivers smooth power all the way round the clock. No clutch problems yet (after 10K miles) but then I don't hammer it often.

Whenever im going on a motorway the Revo remap software gets switched off. The clutch really doesnt like going from 70+mph in 6th - so a change down to 5th, or 4th is needed :thumbdwn:

But if you're not bothered about mpg (or your license) its great. Keep it above 90mph in 6th and the progress you make with just a squeeze of the right foot is amazing! I dont like driving like this... all the time ;) - hence the switch.

Regarding clutch slip, am i right in saying that if you upgrade to the Sachs upraded clutch, then there will be no clutch slip at all? I want to be able to give it the 'welly' anywhere through the rev range without worrying about clutch slip!!;)

I don't get any clutch slip with it turned on, only occasionally in 3rd. Its more the juddering at low revs - sounds like somethings going to break lol.

If there's slip in 3rd there'll definetly be slip in 6th because there's greater resistance to the engine torque and the clutch is the week point. Your vibration's probably a shagged DMF

Edit: Farky, yes an uprated clutch rated to the appropriate amount of torque will be fine.

I remapped my car using a generic map which i purchased from a tuning company. i get no clutch slip what so ever. i go to uni in sheffield, so you are more than welcome to have a look at mine to compare standard with re-mapped?

cheers

john

The juddering/vibration at low revs is more than likely compressor surge.

Not the dual mass flywheel thing?

I've had mine remapped for 20k + miles, and have no clutch slippage yet, and it was rr'd with 315ib/ft on Sat past. I was told when I got the map done that my clutch wouldn't last too long, but with careful driving it should be grand.

I had a Custome Code 1 remap of my Fabia vRS at 3,000 miles and it ran faultlessly for a year to 29,000 when I traded it for an Octavia. The extra performance especially torque is considerable so you do need to be careful with the clutch and not floor it at low revs. My only doubt or nagging thought about the remap is that the standard brakes need to be worked pretty hard when you're using the addictive performance and didn't always inspire 100% confidence. I can see why the 312mm brake upgrade is popular.
