Fabia Turbo Pipe problem?

Featured Replies

My wife's 4 week old 100bhp tdi Fabia lost most of it's power on the M56 the other day. Fortunately she was able to limp to the dealer at 60mph. The dealer found that a turbo pipe hadn't been clipped in place correctly so that a small hole was rubbed in it. The dealer (Mitchells, Wirral) were excellent and replaced the pipe immediately. I haven't been able to check which pipe because I've been in hospital but I suspect that it was the one between the turbo and intercooler.

I'd be grateful for comments on this incident - Is it a known problem that other people should be aware of? Could any long term damage been done?

Thanks in advance.

Bert,

Shocking news in the least. As to the dealer in question, I had the pleasure of talking to them a few months back, good people on the surface (as far as my talking got).

I've not heard of the problem, a few experts will be on soon, and I'm sure will add more weight to this. It's either a freak QC issue or somthing else.

Welcome to the site :D

Welcome to the site. My car is now 2 years old and no problems and haven't heared of any of the other TDi Fabia owners compaining about this problem so maybe it was a one off that slipped through the net...

I know of a few SEAT Ibiza's that have had this problem.

Both 100 and 130 bhp.

It can be the main turbo pipe down the o/s of the engine drops and rubs on the o/s drive shaft or a smaller vacuum pipe slightly higher up.

That's a pretty quick limp :D

Shouldn't have caused damage - the turbo pressurised air will be escaping from the hole most of the time (depending on the size of the hole) so little chance of sucking anything nasty into the engine. The amount of fuel injected into the engine is altered by the boost pressure so if there's no boost, then less fuel is injected hence the loss in performance.

Don't worry - you've got pently of warranty time left.

New one on me too... we've certainly had no such problems over the last three years with our Fabia TDi (not that I've noticed anyway... hehe!)

You should see her when she's not limping! (the Fabia, I mean  )

Thanks for all the replies. I'll report back when I can find out what happened exactly.
