Does This ASR Watchacallit Really Work?

Featured Replies

I was at the traffic lights the other day and this car pulled up beside me. I do not know what it was.

The driver looked at me smarmilly as if he wanted a race.

The lights changed and...he left me for dust.

I was not interested in a race.

I did notice a slight bit of wheelspin with my car. But the conditions were dry.

Does anyone rate this ASR? Cause I don't!

Your comments pls

Well, the wheels do spin. just for less time. The ASR system detects the break in traction and then reduces engine power to compensate. Had the ASR been off, you would still be sitting at the lights. The ASR system is ok but its to easy to catch out. ESP is much better and more intelligent.

Ditto on Manny's comments.

Also bumps often upset the ASR. If your going over a rough road, I'd turn it off.

Turn it off and then youll see that it does work...Very well

Or throw the car into a sharp 90 degree bend and floor it in 2nd just where the turbo is kicking in, the car will run wide, and then as the wheels start to spin, ASR will intervene and kill the power to the wheels and the front will tuck back in.

I think that with the ESP on it should be alot better than it is. I can accelerate and the wheels spin for a good couple of seconds before it decides to actively do something. I expected it to be alot better

The combinmation of ASR, low down torque and weight over the front wheels makes my VRS Fabia much better then all the other stuck vehicles I've passed in snowy conditions.

asr works ok for me!

I think it is nice that it does not just chop straight in. I find it gives a bit of wheelspin when you want it, say for probing grip in fast cornerers, but reigns it in if you are being silly.

I also note that the ASR light flashes even when the system is not quite spinning up sometimes.
