Just thinking that there might be, not be for sometime. Mind you Skoda sell a good number to the Police and that might temp them into another. If they follow the Golf than i think we will be looking to a base version with 200 bhp and the option of a DSG gearbox!

But, would they do it, would it out handle the Golf as the vRS now will?

Not for some time is the general consensus. And it might turn out a diesel too.

Went to get some parts from the dealers last weekend and he said the vRS in the new model will be 18 months after the new Octavia is released but have no details on what engines spec it will be.

I understand that police are now being forced down the automatic route for safety reasons so they may switch to Superbs where I live they are now having Lexus autos, they have Octavia RS's as well at mo

vRS is said to be a 190bhp diesel.

No actually I am busy today as I have to go visit my Mum in hospital, just sometimes these questions irritate me. None of us know if there will be a vRS. Best clue that there will be is that the current vRS is still being built post introduction of the new shape.

A very reliable source tells me the current Octavia vRS (and possibly 1 or 2 other variants, including the combi/estate) will stay in production for approximately 12 months after the new model launches.

For those who are going, the new Octy will also be on display at the NEC Motorshow 2004 ( May 27 to 6 June)

I have seen a police superb, but for safetey reasons! NCAP make pretty clear that it's very bad at the pedestrian test. Imagine a vRS Superb. That would be like watching a Rolls Royce getting thrashed by a hooligan.
