I am sure this has been covered before but I had no luck searching the ice Forum. can someone please tell me the correct wiring procedure for my upgrades. i have just installed pioneer 1716s in the front and 6x9s 6900s on the rear shelf (bit of a job,tight fit :( ). anyhow i dont think there is much of an improvment over stock, so i wonder if i wired incorrectly. i basically joined

drivers side: blues together and used as a positive

passenger side: reds together and used as a positive

and all browns as earths. is this right?

the hu is a modena 52 with 4x45watts so its decent enough, i just dont seem to be getting the deep 6x9 bass you usually get, any help would be much appreciated

1st you'll never get decent bass from unboxed speakers, sorry but its just accoustics. Mounted free (ie anythink thats not in a box) the speaker creates and equal and oposite pressures on both sides that cancel each other out.

Also high-power h/u's don't use a common earth, you cannot wire speaker negative to chassis ground, I hope thats not what you mean.

Sorry can't help on the colours (yet). If your car already had rear speaker you should disconnect them as otherwise the load on the h/u will be 2-ohm which could blow the output stage.

Easy way to check polarity on the front / rear.

Put the fader to rear only, then move balance left/right does the bass increase.

Repeat on front using front fader only.

If they sound fine, then try front and rear speakers on the left, then on the right.

On the stock speakers, there are two sets of wires to each speaker (four wires in total) because the weeter cables "piggyback" off the main speakers. So you are right to connect both of, for example, the blue cables to the speaker positive terminal and both of the browns to the negative terminal.

One thing to double check is that the positive and negative connections are the right way around otherwise you get no bass - the speakers are in anti-phase. This is an interesting thing to try with your home hi-fi - position the speakers facing each other about 2 feet apart and see how it sounds. Then swap the postive and negative wires over on one speaker and try again - wot to bass.

thats great info lads, thanks a lot. I think I have it sussed now, one of my connections was the wrong way around, thats what I get for doing it in the boot in the dark . Anyway the sound is GREAT now. I'd recommend it to anyone its really worth it.

Any chance of a pic showing the installation of the rears?
