vrs vs mondeo

Any 306? I disagree :P Mr P has a 306 1.9DT 90 bhp that I still drive every now and again and it is absolutely gutless, so would need a head start to even get into the corner :D

I had a 306 HDi as a company car for 18 months. It had the GTi6 suspension and wheels(was a Dturbo spec) and it was the best handling car I've ever driven. I could simply attack corners with it and it held on like nothing else. I chased a Subaru down a really windy B road once and I did far better than I expected. Shame it rattled like buggery and bits kept falling off it.

As you say though they are gutless. It was nippy round town but get on an open road and I was wishing for a remap all the time.

People rate the Mondeo as one of the best handling cars in it's class, especially for its size. I almost bought one (was looking at TDCi 130's) but shyed away because at present they're too big for my needs, not as economical and I read some real horror stories regarding the dodgy fuel systems. I also think the Fabia provides more of a grin factor in addition to a greater element of exclusivity.

i personally have a 306 and it will be on par in the corners as it has a very very good chasis and the 1.9 dts aint gutless my one is faster than my furby

and a better enthusiast's web site. Enjoy your new purchase ;):D

The VRS will make you smile more than a Mondeo Ghia X could ever do.

*Michael Bolton plays in the background, P-A strokes the vRS from behind, black & white motion picture with lots of smiling*

Mr P's certainly wasn't gutless when it was brand new, but then it was compared with a MK1 Golf diesel which was his old car. It was quite nippy and you could feel the turbo, but now it feels heavy, slow and sluggish like a big fat old man :( so I wouldn't be comfortable pushing it into the corners, but then I'm not a racer ;)

You can easily mod the XUDT engines to 110bhp by adjusting the turbo wastegate and upping the fuelling. The Dervdoctor in Derby does this for about £100 IIRC. Makes a huge difference and the engine can easily handle it.

The main thing that would put me off getting rid of the Mondeo would be the lavish levels of kit. The Furby is wll kitted for a diddy hatch but a Mondeo is sheer luxury in comparison.

i would say the mondy is certainly "up there" in terms of handling for its class....... ive not tried the passat but thats supposed to be good.

fuel i can totally sympathise - its half the reason im swapping

normal driving (25 mile run to work) ill average 26mpg and im not hammering it

motorway driving (80mph) will give you about 34mpg

ive had it as low as 8mpg when totally booting it. highest ive EVER had (sustained level) it has been 39mpg - (48mph sustained in 4th gear) but that fell as well over time

Re the seat cleaning

I scothguarded my seats when the car was new and over a year later any marks are removed easily with auto glyms seat cleaner

As a matter of fact,im surprised how clean the seats are in the car

I thought they would be filthy by now
