Battery removal implications

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what the implications would be of disconnecting the battery so that i can top up PAS fluid level.

I have a 2000 1.4 MPI 8v Classic and the fluid reservoir is underneath the battery. Bright spark who ever thought of that design !

Some threads have said that the immobiliser might loose its settings and so will need to be reset by a dealer. Is this true ?

thanks

Electric Windows will loose the "1 Touch Funcion" and need to be re-programmed, your manual will tell you

Immobiliser should be fine, never heard that before

hi tonnior -

you might have a shock - i`ve been looking for that little chat as well - took the battery out still no reservoir looks like you`ve got to get the battery holder out also - tried to look underneath , still no sign of it - as for disconnecting the battery , don`t worry - the ecu has its own battery back up but the radio will need to have the code number put in -

hope it helps -

........ and the clock will need set to the correct time again ! :D

minor detail - luv a beer :dtp:

You may find the engine wont idle correctly, the throttle body may require resetting by diagnostics.

I don't think that's quite correct.

AFAIK the information in the ECU is held in an embedded EPROM or EEPROM chip which does not require any battery backup to retain the data. In this way it will not lose it's data while stored in a parts department or if the battery is ever disconnected while fitted to a car.:)

minor detail

Agreed (hence the big grin smiley) but nonetheless a consequence of disconnecting the battery.

Me too ! ..... hence the sig.

Had my battery out for replacement recently.

One-touch windows and clock needed resetting - radio memory was wiped but no code needed.

Just removed the battery to check PAS fluid. On replacement the clock needed re-setting, the trip meter went to zero and the one touch window facility needed re-setting. No other problems except for the 3 hour job to actually get at the PAS reservoir. The battery, battery housing, air cleaner housing and various trunking all had to be removed and then it started raining!

According to the Haynes manual this is only a problem on the diesel as it has a larger battery than petrol models. What a bad design!

If it's the original radio I don't think you'll need the code.

Correcto Stu..... you did`nt need the code for mine when you fitted

the cruise BTW just lovin it

My Classic (04 model) handbook says one type of radio recognises the vehicle and reprogs -certain conditions need to be met -

Hi,

I'm asuming if Skoda take your battery out to do something big they'll re-prog everything?.. Think I'll check my 1 touch windows when I go to collect. ;-)

I'd assume so. :)

"One touch" is simple to reset anyway using your ignition key.
