Serious lack of performance/boost

Featured Replies

My mother has just borrowed my car to go visit family and it has returned as a slow, boring, disappointment.

It was run on 95RON for the journey of approx 300 miles.

When I drove it for the first time after she returned I got quite a shock. The car now has no 'umph' whatsoever now and is just plain slow to what it should be.

It revs slower than normal, there seems to be a lot less torque, and there is very little pull when I put my foot down.

Running it on 95RON can honestly not make this much difference to it surely?

Currently has

Does it have an adaptive ECU, and is that enough to make so much difference?

Have you had the battery power disconnected for any reason?. If so then you will find that the timing will be reset to zero which makes the car feel very 'flat'!.

If that aint the case it's still worth getting your settings checked out from an appropriate 'dealer' ;)

Run a few gallons of the good stuff through as discussed earlier Harry. If you've checked the DV then you've covered it. Unless of course as Steve suggested the battery has been disconnected.

Battery has definately not been touched.

Will see how I get on with the remaining V-Power in the tank, hopefully things should improve fingers crossed.

Drive it like you stole it and hope the engine learns again :P

I have been believe me.

Considering how badly some of my (old) cars responded to running at lower RON fuel, and bearing in mind a mild amount of tuning might have happened ;) it will be more sensitive to it I'd have thought, protecting the engine.

Once you've got a tank of proper stuff through I reckon it will improve again :)

If it took 300 miles to get like it is then it will take 300 miles, running only on the good stuf (not a mixture of the two) to get back to how it was

Take it to the dealer. Same happened on my mate's Passat and it was something to do with a computer controlled element failing . It's as good as new now and pulls off like it should.

Not sure what "options!" you might have added to your car harry but in my experience any petrol remapped car needs the good stuff, cheap fuel is always a false economy

Some of the options do require v-power to realise the full potential. ;)

It makes me laugh to see hoards of people outside Asda waiting for petrol thinking they are getting it cheap. My local Shell is the same or cheaper.

Should consider getting a CTR Like me.... LOL

Penny pinching idiots :)

could well be te fuel....it can make a massive difference....old days of 4 star leaded vs unleadeed astras (u had to switch a converter under the bonnet) a good example and I have tried a quick vrs and another where it felt quite sluggish, lethargic on the throttle, so figure it must largely be down to the fuel.

i'd have gone 4 a ctr but the insurance is silly money

I think your car had it's JKM Treatment using 99 Fuel?

pretty sure it was using bp ultimate at the time which is 97ron.

Back on V-Power and the power has returned :)

Your mother didn't fill it at Morrisons did she??

I've tried asking her and she couldn't remember exactly which garage she went to. It was at a service station though, a Moto or similar.
