DSG - rock & roll!

Featured Replies

You might like to try this as an idication of how much loading up the DSG is doing whilst stationary: select the instantaneous fuel consumption view on the maxidot, then have the engine running in D whith your foot on the brake (my car displays 0.9 litres/hr) then put it in neutral and see what the value is (mine is 0.7 Litres per hour) - so my Dsg has a slight drag - so slight you can barely percieve it on the tacho or audibly.

It would be good to get some numbers fom other members to compare.

Sorry but in NZ we use kph and l/100km (or km/ltr) as our units - I suppose I could change the settings for comparison sake if u like.

Cheers

Marcus

I notice the drag through my body. It is just a bit more NVH than normal.

I suspect fluid drag. They are twin wet clutches, so when cold the oil will tend to "stick" the clutch plates together. When hot, there will be hardly any drag (but still a bit). Yet I maintain that when the foot brake is depressed both clutches are fully disengaged.

On our 2006 L&K with ESP and all the bells and whistles there is nothing like a hill-assist - it will roll back until the clutch re-engages.

This isn’t a subtle effect on my car. It is defo transmitting a noticeable amount of power thorough the clutch, hot or cold. I am wondering if my DMF might be playing up and that could be responsible for a bit of NVH, but the Jury is out till next Tuesday when Willberpog gets his first service.

Clear up a couple of points,

confusing the DSG, because it "remembers" how your driving,ie, giving more throttle ect, when your going uphill you give it a bit more welly, reach the top of the hill and level out,it will change up at higher revs than normal 'cos it still "thinks" that your driving "briskly",thats when I use manual a lot,it seems to remember for about 5 to 10 seconds.

When it's in Drive it is always in gear, but when your foots on the brake it slips the clutch,so take it out of Drive or the clutch will wear out more quickly.

Hill starts, I just keep the brake on with my left foot, the pedals big enough to get both feet on it,although I do only touch the brake on the edge with my right foot.in fact I'm doing a lot of left foot braking, don't try it at first with passengers or in traffic !,your left foot's used to pushing down all the way on the clutch, have to be more gentle on the brake !.

There is a temperature sensor in the box (ohh err Mrs !),if it overheats (good grief, it's getting worse !) only first and reverse can be selected.

Using manual a lot around town I get about another 5mpg extra.

I got the DSG 'cos I've got a damaged left knee, with a manual changing gear hundredsof times a day,at the end of some shifts I was sometimes in serious pain, since the DSG (14,500 miles since late Feb,yes that's this year),no pain whatsoever:thumbup: .it's one very sweet box (fnar fnar !);)

I think the manual says that if you overheat the clutch in slow traffic (I assume the odd gears clutch) then it will deselect the gear and release the clutch altogether!

Hmmm, not what my handbook says !.

Agree, mine says something about the gearbox disengaging if the plates become overheated.
