1st Mot since new(3 yrs old)

Featured Replies

I had the car in at D.M Keiths,Leeds today for a new tyre and a service with MOT.....................

And it failed!!front suspension arm, rear braked discs and 2 new front tyres needed!!!

They rang and wanted £470 to put it right for the MOT. I couldn't afford that at the moment so i'll get it tested at a local garage not dealers.

Pretty annoyed but the mot was free so...........

Also i had a look in the showroom for a race blue fabiia vrs, whats the news on them?

Why would getting it tested elsewhere make a difference, its the same MOT test. What was wrong with the wishbone? If your brake discs are corroded then the need doing regardless if you can afford it or not.

I guess he means that he will get it repaired for non-dealer prices (ie. smaller labour cost).

what was the exact failure for the rear discs? My fabia failed with "excessively pitted". And the discs were pretty worn, with some part of the pad not touching against the disc.

I changed them myself and it didn't cost me much - only the parts which I bought from eurocarparts and a windback tool.

Front tyres were a little too worn for their liking too.

Never heard of a front suspension arm though

Our rear discs (and pads) were replaced after a mere 3 months and 4k miles from new. I took it in to the dealer to investigate a squeek frm the rear brakes and they told me the disks were corroded and warped.

Originally they said it would not be a warranty item - but after a little discussion and a call by the dealer to Skoda Customer Services thay agreed to do it under warranty.

Why isn't the suspension arm covered under warranty? I assume you didn't wait until the last day to have the MOT.

As said, the labour and the parts will more than likely cost less elswhere.

Yes "excessively pitted" was the term used by the mechanic as well for the brake discs.

all the work will get done it just may take a little while longer!

Well do what you can yourself.

An MOT test is a basic safety test. Your car should be above that standard normally.

Have DM Keith been doing the servicing up to now?

Also dont try and leave the MOT until after your car is three years old acording to the V5. If you do then technically you are driving without MOT and risk being pulled.
