New VRS windscreen falling out !?!?!?!?!?

Featured Replies

I bought a brand new Octavia VRS in November, and have very mixed feelings thus far.

In many ways it is a cracking car, however it has many foibles that I just did not expect , having owned a largely fault-free Mk-I VRS Octy before.

My main gripe is the fact that it cannot seem to go in a straight line !!!!! I have had it back to the dealers Bickerton Skoda Sheffield, who have test driven it ( and said "there is nothing wrong, but we will send it for alignment " ) and then had it aligned at a friendly Audi Garage and found it was way out of alignment.

My main concern is a creaking noise at the front nearside, it seems to manifest itself mainly when the car flexes laterally, but also does it when on normal day to day undulating crests and dips in the road.

Iam now worried that the car has an inherent alignment problem, made worse by the fact that I washed it today and found that there seems to be problems with my bonded screen !?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Please could any tech experts or even just Octy VRS owners comment on what they think !?

My Octy still drives to the right, against camber !

I am taking the car in on 18th March for a thorough check up, but would really like the car back in one piece and fit for purpose, otherwise I will be rejecting it and buying a "gag" Ford Focus St-2

Not a car I really want, but I know three people who have bought them new and are delighted with them.

This isn't a reflection on Bickerton Skoda, Sheffield, they have been helpful, but a little indifferent.

Which is much better than any Skoda dealers I could mention in Huddersfield !!!

Yeah windscreen is de-laminating.

It's a manufacturing problem with the screen as the layer of plastic in it is exposed to the air.

I think falling out is a bit OTT. It is an example of the well known delaminating of the screen and should be replaced FOC under warrenty. Ensure that a genuine screen is used for the replacment.

My main concern is a creaking noise at the front nearside,

fella auto express had a vrs with a sim prob and it turned out a suspension bolt was loose, i also think evo mag had same thing on their vrs?

Cheers for all the advice, any idea which suspension bolt ?

The garage says they have checked "everything", but to be honest I am not sure how thoroughly they are looking, as they could not hear the creak themselves until I took the Service manager out and pointed it out.

Thanks Stu.

Leave the screen for a while until it gets chipped and then have it done under warranty as it will still have a manufacturing defect.

Hi...I got my new Vrs in November too, from Lightcliffe Halifax.Have you had probs with Lightcliffe Hudds!?

I don't have the problems with the car you decribe but do have an intermitant creaking noise from the front nearside! but this sounds to be interior , nothing mechanical...My main gripe is the boot release catch, it just never seems to work properly and usually when I have arms full of stuff and then can't open the boot..As you say I too never had a single problem of any kind with my Mk1 Vrs but overall I prefer the Mk2 and it is so much faster! more so than I expected ...

I was thinking that, but knowning my luck they would try getting out of it due to the chip. I'm gonna mention it next time I'm in.
