Would you buy another Octavia?

Featured Replies

We are looking for a new family car for long journeys, camping, towing a lightweight boat, the usual family stuff and are considering a New Octavia.

The question for current owners is would you buy another? I'm interested in thoughts about reliability, practicality or whether you've just got plain bored with it but basically a yes/no will do to help me decide. Thanks.

Probably not - too many annoying minor faults and crap dealers

No, had enough of Skodas dont care about the customer attitude

If you can wait 6 months & its as good as it sounds this might be a good bet

In an attempt to rescue this thread, yes!

I think I've been lucky with my dealer which seems to be the exception rather than the rule. They handled my warranty problem perfectly.

My next car will be an Octavia L&K.

Well......... I have an Octy Mk I. I'm waiting for my new Octy Mk II to turn up at the dealers. I did look around at a few other cars, but for what I wanted the Octy was the right price, even with a few extras that other cars supply.

Other problem is I looked at a Mondeo, and was seriously tempted, but with the new one out this year the value after 3 years would have been about £20.

I pick up my 3rd consecutive Octavia on Thursday, I did look around at the competition, but nothing could match the deal I got with my local dealer. My local dealer has given me excellent service, too, so it's not all as bad as the first responders might have indicated :) I've never had so much as one single fault on any of my Skodas (fingers crossed for my 3rd!)

The only thing stopping me from buying yet another one is a feeling that I might be getting bored!

Dave.

D'on't know  No problems no dealer hassles just depends whats about and how much cash i have at the time :o Quite fancy a L&K as family barge rather than vRS, but thats me being tight rather than swmbo's driving opinion

no.

not reliable enough bya long way and i would never buy a brand new car again either unless the money i spent on it was pocket change.

5-10 year old luxo-barges are the way forward for comfy motoring and a nippy mad little old thing for fun. damn sight cheaper, lots more fun and a whole lot more convenient.

£2500 buys you a 200bhp electric heated leather everything scorpio and a mad little 15year old hot hatch. whats £2500 going to get in the way of a skoda? nothing good really.

Yep , if I go for another similar sized car the new Mondeo is one of the favourites.

I'd like to go for a convertible though , so it's going to be looking round and seeing what's available

Car is great and hasn't missed a beat in the 4000 miles I've had it so far. But I will be looking at something more fun next time I think.

MK I - Not a bad car, cheap didn't handle very well

MK II - Handles better, costs more, too many annoying niggles and an awful experience with some dealers.

I might buy another one nearly new if the price was right, but I'd definately be considering fords and other brands for the next car. It was between an octy and a Mondeo this time, however the current mondeo is going to plummet when the new one came out, so the octy edged it.

The next mondeo looks very good IMHO, it's just a shame the derv engines are less powerful than those in the focus.

Yup I would deffinately consider getting another one but there are others I would want to look at too.

Thanks for the replies folks. We're on our third Skoda but my impression is that something has gone from the dealers or the cars or both. Two packed in dealing with Skoda shortly after we bought cars from them with murmers about fancy showrooms being forced upon them and from briefly popping into our local one I wasn't overly impressed and that's changed hands now too.

My BiL bought an Octavia and kinda liked it but was looking for something different shortly after and at 15k or thereabouts for an estate I'm beginning to wonder if I should spread my net wider. It's a shame because my old Felicias have been rock solid and cheap as chips.

Cheers again.

Yes I would, I am on my second one. First was a Mk1, and now a MK2. MK2 is better by miles, so far 100% reliable in 11K miles. The octavia must be doing something right, its in the top 10 of the BBC JD power survey, unlike some more well known makes in the bottom half.

Having had several unreliable luxo barges, including mercs and BMs in the past and the expense that goes with fixing them, the octy is a breath of fresh air.

I am about to but another one. Just hope the MK11 is as good as my MK1 vRS.

So what apart from the new Mondeo do people consider the competition for the Mk2 Octy ?(plus or minus a grand or two) Mine will have to be an estate BTW.

I'm on my 3rd Skoda - see my signature!

I have had my Octy II since September last year, and would seriously consider another.

I bought 2nd hand - just less than 2 years old and 17k miles on the clock, which I feel is a good time to buy. The car has already taken a big hit on the depreciation, but you still have a year warranty left if there are any niggles.

I have done another 12k since September and am very happy with the car.

Its been into the delears a couple of times - dual mass flywheel recall and a problem with one of the remote keys. Both issues were sorted under warranty and I got great service from the dealers (Benfield Harrogate and Simpsons Preston).

In terms of overall satisfaction with Skoda I did a poll a while ago - over 90% didn't regret buyng their Skoda

Just to add another comment or ten: I've had mine since July last year and it has done almost 40,000 miles thus far, no squeaks or rattles from the interior BUT I did have a new wheel bearing and EGR valve a little while ago under warranty.

It is actually a company car and has been fully laden with heavy crap since day one, it's driven hard as well so it hasn't had an easy life by any means.

I've been given the choice of any car I want up to about 22 grand and I've gone for another one based on the experience of the current Octavia II and the 100,000+ faultless miles in an Octy Mk1 TDI Elegance.

I've looked at a few other cars out there such as Honda's Accord, Vauxhall Vectra, Ford Mondeo and VW Passat etc. They all have plus points but the combination of exceptional spec on the new L&K, the very good reliability I HAVE PERSONALLY experienced, load capacity and long distance comfort has bought me back to Skoda's front door once again:)

Third Octavia ready for collection next week.

First 48,000 miles, a couple of minor problems

Second 53,000 miles, no problems.

Next a 4x4 1.9

But, a change of dealer was definately necessary

Another positive vote here. Both our cars are a joy to drive. We also have a very good dealer.

Seems like the biggest negative so far is the dealer network.

SUK: Please read this thread and do something about it!!!!:nono:

I'm currently on my 3rd skoda. I've had a felicia, TDi fabia and i'm now the proud owner of a mk2 octavia vRS. Although I've had a few niggles with the dealer with the fabia I've always found the reliability very good. My brother has had 3 skoda's and my dad is on his second octavia and he's very happy with them. I would consider buying another, but I would look to see what is around in the ex demonstrator or year old categories. Hope this is of use.

I would. I am on No3

Mk1 Vrs

Mk1 L&K

Mk II L&K

No dealer issues

The MK1 L&K did 120K in 2.5 years did not miss a beat. Service every 20K miles, tyres every 40K, 55+mpg. MK2 i have had under 3 months 13K now, just an irritation if i leave it in reverse sometimes the stream display sticks, fuel not so good on the MkII.

First let me say these are company cars.

Had a mk2 l&k July 05, unfortunately it has recurring airbag fault, 13 times from Dec 05 to Nov 06 and was off the road for 12 weeks. After 8 I wanted a replacement but between the lease company and Skoda it dragged on. When it went for the last time in Nov 06 my company threw the keys back at the lease company who threw them back at Skoda.

The end of this is I have ordered another Octavia, this time a VRs, to pick up on Thursday.

If it was my money I would buy a second hand Skoda, for a company car you get a lot of car for your money which means less to the tax man.
