What's this engine like?

What are the major service intervals? When would a Cam-Belt need changing?

Just another option in my car hunting soup.

It's in a Passat, if that makes any difference.

80k for a belt, major service 40k (all the filters)

Cambelt is a fairly labour intesive job.

Big ole' engine, quite throaty and some would say noisy but there is alot going on under there. Not as refined as the latter PD versions from Audi.

Dont run out of fuel (you actually cant, the engine will stop first before you run out of fuel), DO NOT fill with petrol (sounds silly but does alot of damage).

Is it a better engine than the 130TDI?

Is all that metal work/pistons/valves etc worth it, for the extra BHP?

By the way, what is the BHP when it's in the Passat. (150/160??)

Bhp is 150 in earlier cars and 160 in later ones? When I had my B5 Passat I was always hankering after a 2.5 TDi.

So, will it be a lot more expensive to run, compared to a TDI130?

It will be more expensive, not massively but yes - personally I like the V6 TDi - although not as economical as the 4 Cyl - nice amount of power and torque .

In three months.. we have only serviced one v6 TDI must be rare?

Any feedback from our friendly Superb drivers?

My dad has just got a 2.7 tdi A4 180. Really good engine, very smooth, takes a bit of getting used to, but all in all a very good car, and love the engine. Sound is just like a petrol, with a lovely V6 growl. Economy wise, my mum recons its about as good as her A3 TDI Quattro 140. Dont know about servicing costs etc, it is his company car.
