superb satnav q

Hi

so I've been looking at options for a satav for my superb, and I want to stay with a Skoda unit to keep compatability with the wheel controls and dash display. My options seem to be

1 - MFD-DX which seems to the the standard superb unit

2 - the MFD2 (which seems to be the Octavia unit, and is not square shaped).

My questions are

- do you need any pre-exisiting wiring in the car to use the mfd-dx with the steering wheel controls and in dash lcd?

- does the MFD2 fit in the superb, and if so, is there a stock skoda mount, and dash panel to accomodate the different shape?

I've found a lot of useful stuff in the various forums, but I havent been able to dig out a clear answer to any of the above

You would be best going for the MFD-DX, you will just need a plug & play wiring loom and a GPS aerial. If the radio displays in the dashpod now then the wiring for that will already be in place.

The MFD 2 will not fit, so that option is out of the window.

With regards to the MFD DX, this will fit and will connect to all your exisiting connections however you will loose your steering wheel controls and in dash display.

I assume that you have a Comfort model Superb?

The dash display should work, it does in my octavia.

I have an 2005 elegance (w/o satnav), which has the in dash display of radio channels etc, and the steering wheel controls

I don't think it will buddy, I had the indash display and that doesn't work now and neither does my steering wheel controls......

As I have stated mate, you can get the unit working in the car but the steering wheel and in dash display IMO will not work.....

That's pants, is it enabled in the soft coding of the nav and the cluster. Also is there different versions of dx like D and G on VW? I know D requires a cable connection whilst G works through can-bus. I'm using a VW D.

Maybe my Sat Nav unit needs the cable connection then?!?!?!

Can you remember on the little 3 block connector which includes the Changer connection which coloured blocks had connections and which didn't? If the radio channels displayed before you shouldn't need to add the cable. The yellow block on the connector mentioned above is for connection to the instrument cluster.

so while I'm new to skoda, I'm a bit of a VAG head, so here I go

so essentially what you're saying is that it may require a recode of the instrument cluster to display the Nav input (v. likely if the unit wasnt factory fitted) and possibly a recode of the nav unit to enable the outputs, regardless of whats connected to what?

I'll take a poke around tomorrow in vag-com and see what I can see...

Hmmmm.....now your going to make me remove my unit, LOL!!

I will have a look over the weekend.....

so actually to ask a dumb question, if the dx G unit is CAN enabled, does it need an adpator ? (or is that the TMC Box?)

Please don't! I know how tight they are to get back in, maybe wait until someone else can confirm.

I think in the Golf if you use a version G you need the TMC box to get the display working.

right but depends on the golf right? the g IV wasnt CAN BUS - only the Golf V IIRC

I was talking about the MkIV. MkV would need the MFD 2 anyway.

I think we're agreeing furiously - the mfd dx G version was CAN only right? so it would need an adaptor to work in the golf IV

LOL, I have a rattle that is annoying me at the moment mate and I am sure it's coming from behind the unit so I will have to have a look at some stage....
