Passat PD105?

Featured Replies

Thinking of changing my Octy vrs in the summer and getting a new shape Passat but the budget is limiting the choice to the 1.9 Tdi S (105 bhp).

Now this will be incredibally slow but does anyone know if this can be tuned up to a reasonable level ie; 130-140 bhp?

I'd go for a drive in one, that aint that bad.

And with the influx of 2.0 PD issues at the moment i'd go for the 1.9 anyhow.

I know going from the Vrs to a diesel is always going to be strange but I had a Pug 306 DTurbo S before so it will be good going back to the in gear acceleration.

I like the size of the Octy butnot too keen on the Octy2 and the dealers I have used.

I think the new Passat looks amazing and the build quality will be great, still not convinced about going for an old shape Passat TDI (130) Sport though.

Recently got a Golf with the same engine in. After having a Fabia VRS I was expecting the 105bhp version of the 1.9 to be a bit of a slug but to be fair it shifts and you get the same push in the back feeling as you do from the 130 in the Fabia. I think its got around 180-90 lb/ft of Tourque, so in reality its not that far down on the 130

OK its not as fast as a 130bhp 1.9 or the 2.0 TDI but it dosen't feel like its a good 25-35bhp down, there's still plenty of low down pull there and its more than adequate for overtaking. Only thing that lets it down is a lack of a 6th gear.

My Dad drives a 2.0TDI Touran which has been mapped to 180bhp and loves driving the Golf, always comments on how well it goes considering its only meant to be pushing out 105bhp.

Regarding remaps, there are plenty to choose from offering gains from any where between 130-155bhp. I'm getting my remaped by a company called chipboost and with a pannel filter I should be up to around the 145bhp mark, which will be rather nice :)

The Passats a bit rolly... my dad has a 2.0 TDI, and he calls it the Queen Mary! Its a good cruiser, but its not even remotely sporty! And for some reason you don't seem to get the second surge at peak power like you do with the Furby vRS, although that maybe down to the DSG gearbox... I'd definitely have a go in one before you make any firm decisions.

Cheers,

I think I've got the quick car stage out of my head with the Octy and now with a young family other things seem more important. Still want a little poke for safe overtaking and the like.

Looking forward to some test drives.

Does the older 1.9 130bhp Passat come with a 5 speed box?
