Samco TIP OR exhaust before remap?

Featured Replies

I'm booked in for a custom remap mid April and before then I was going to fit a Samco TIP which I bought last year but never fitted (its been sitting on a shelf in my office, gathering dust for 5 months.. due to bad weather etc!!). However, speaking to the mappers, it seems it 'can' produce surgeing issues.

My dilema is this, do I fit the TIP and hope for the best or sell it and go for an exhaust instead (full)? Which is likely to offer the best gain post map? Also, for the time being, it'll stop at that (intake, DV, exhaust or TIP, remap)

Cheers.

As your local ish Unc; if you want to see/feel the diff; give us a shout....... I had a Neuspeed tip, carbonio and 100cel cat/system put on before mapping....... no issues here sadly the company who did mine are no longer with us:P But i do know some good tuners in Brackley:rolleyes:

Ive never herd of any issues and and plan to do the same as Phil to my octy (ie have it remapped last)

If you can fit the TIP and have the exhaust changed before the remap.

I've never heard of a vRS or 1.8T suffering from surging when a TIP is fitted... i fit the Forge TIP to the vRS i had and never had any problems. That was with a JabbaSport induction kit.

To my mind you will get the best possible results from a remap if you have the intake and exhaust breathing sorted first.

Have fun fitting the TIP... i cant remember exactly how long i spent fitting mine but it wasnt an hour... cut knuckles and lots of swearing later it was on. The results are worth it though, the difference to the spool up times are very good.

Αs you say you have bought the tip so why you don't just put it on the car and also put a full exhaust before the remap? You will see a big difference!:orb_devil:thumbup:

I don't think you'll see as good as gains from a TIP as you would from an exhaust. They both make the turbo spin up quicker....

Cheers for the replys. After posting yesterday I more or less convinced myself that I would fit it... and go for the exhaust (in for a penny, in for a pound!).

The standard cat and exhaust is pretty restrictive... replacing that will make a bigger difference than the TIP would but adding both before a custom remap will give much better results.

As above adding a FMIC is a must if your going to run high boost... to be honest on the standard turbo you shouldnt really need to run anything more than the standard SMIC, maybe think about venting the inner arch on the drivers side to help the air flow through the IC...
