Wind deflectors - Anyone got them?

Featured Replies

Not too sure if I should go for them or not :o , so if anyone have any fitted, could you put a pic on here to convince me to either go for it or not?

Cheers

what advantages/disadvantages do you get?

increased drag co efficient? (or will it decrease?)

I think they just stop wind/ bugs/ water getting in when you have your windows down when driving. I would presume a bonus would be lower drag coeff because of this tho, but probably only marginal :o

Just having the windows down when driving will mess up the free flow of air going past the car making it less aerodynamic, so I would think the Coefficient will go up, (the Fabia is somewhere round 0.33), so the car is less slippery through the air.

I was on about windows down without deflectors vs windows down with deflectors; therefore, surely the coefficient will decrease as the airflow is going around the car rather than into it?

Anywho, Im after piccies :P

I have a rear wind deflector if that helps? :D

Back to the Fabia, I think they'd look daft so I'm not really bothered if the drag co-eff goes up or down :P - will make it look like some sort of Jap import or mini-cab IMHO.

Loads of cars here have them and I think they look daft. The ones I had on my old Mitsi whistled at above about 50mph and rattled sometimes. Very annoying!

Isn't it mainly useful for smokers so that the smoke doesn't come back into the car/ash....

That's what I always thought when I saw cars with them fitted :)

I think they are supposed to be used with the window open a bit and not all the way. But I would have thought the deflector on the side would still mess up the air over the car as you are adding an object into the air flow that will cause the air to displace as it hits it.

The decrease in economy is going to be so marginal I would have thought, not much more than adding things like them England flags to the car.

Its used for when you want some fresh air you open the windee a little without having that much whirrling noise or wind in ur face(@ higher speeds). I was thinking of getting one cause its nearing summer as my lil fabia doesnt have air con :( and the whirrling noise REALLY annoys me when im driving.

I have a set on mine....for two reasons: 1) I smoke, and they help to prevent cigarette ash flying back into the car, and 2) they reduce wind noise while travelling along with the window open. I was surprised by how much they reduce wind noise. If you want to have your window open while driving along at high speed, then I would consider them.

The only other thing to say about them is you have to fiddle with them to make sure they fit properly to avoid the window automatically recoiling when it touches them when you use your one touch closing function.

I'll try to take a pic later on today when I get home from work.

I do think they look a little stupid, but they are not that large, so they blend in a little I think. That's what I tell myself anyway.

Cheers Peter, look forward to seeing the pic (plus I love yellow furbies!!:D )

OOPS -thought you meant rear ones - fitted on rear quarters to keep dust etc in dry weather and wet muck in the wet off rear window - anyone tried this idea in the uk - saw it lots on cars abroad.

I've never posted images on here before....let's see if they appear.

They look spot on them mate  Alot more discrete than I imagined, where did you get them from? Are they easy to fit?

Cheers,

Mike

Bought them off ebay....easy to fit, although there were no instructions.

Let me guess, your user name is jen19810_0 ? If it is I was watching them and forgot to bid  lol

They look MUCh better then the ones you see here on the Japanese cars.

Looking good Pete!

I've just bought a pair of these deflectors on Ebay (37.49 euros inc post from Octimex, Germany). I received them within a week, but the instructions say to fit them when the temp is over 20 degrees C, so they're not on yet!

Wot with everyone saying they look naff, I was having second thoughts, but those pics look fine.

Pete.

Fit when the temp is over 20 degrees? Perhaps this is to ensure the rubber around the window is soft? Mine didn't have any instructions so I just installed them. No real difficulties.

Used to use wind deflectors when I was private hire driving years ago- but those things were big and cumbersome. Didn't bother after - but these that are being shown look the bee's knees for someone like myself who always likes the window open a little.

They look really good....... I think they'de look pretty nice on a black car with them being smoked/tinted....... Might have to get some of these babies.

Cheers

Dave.

Fair play - those do look a lot better than any I've seen before. As you say Dave, I reckon they'd look pretty good on black car with tints...

Hi Steve

Currently on Wait For It

They are quite subtle actually - not bad :)
