is it worth doing a oil, oil filter change every 5k?

Featured Replies

The turbo is the most critical part to run without oil but i think it gets its oil straight from the filter and not from the rest of the oil ducts so it effectivly gets filtered oil all the time so filling the filter first probably helps but when its under pressure it will fill in probably less than a second.

not really an issue on a 1.3 mpi:rofl:

good point though, how does one ensure lubrication of a turbo during an oil change?

True about the 1.3 MPI

I suspect there would be some oil in the lines still.

The pressure will be at the turbo first, I think and it will be there the scond you turn the key and it doesn't have to go far anyway.

On the subject of oil changes I recently bought a Pela Oil Extractor 6L from compass24.com cost less than £30 including postage. It works a treat, no mess easy to get rid of oil afterwards and does away with the hassel of removing the engine under tray.

On a different matter, the headligts on my Fabia are poor would I be better buying the bulbs that claim 50% brighter or buying the higher wattage ones, eg 80/100w

Also noticed that headlight dim slightly when stopped and I move the steering wheel. I know this is common but is it normal or is it a sign the steering sensor is on the way out?

PDs stress the sheer force resistance of the oil to the extreme, that's why the specification for PD oils is so exacting. Anyone who does like to keep their turbo blowing will also generate some mighty intense localised temperatures. I understand there have been a number of turbo failures on fleet cars where the mechanics have not stuck to the specified oils

Sensibly driven cars should conserve the corect oil pretty well for 10K miles but if you give your car regular stick, don't stretch the oil changes to their limit. Keep an eye on the colour of your oil Mr-remap and if its looking nasty then by all means change it before the 10K
