Vrs /golf Gti

Featured Replies

Been looking at geting a vrs or golf gti since selling my fabia but seen how much gti are whats the waiting times for a new vrs petrol woth 2k in spec as there

Given a choice I would definately have the Golf. Much better looking IMO.

I went for the Octavia however due to the cost. For starters its

The Golf may cost 3k more to purchase but I'm sure you'd get that back easily come trade in time - residuals are rock solid on the Golf

Well worth thinking about investing in the recarro leather too.

Without a family to cart around and if I were just a *leetle* bit richer, I'd have the Golf. Yes, I'd probably get my money back down the line, but that initial outlay has to come from somewhere...

Still the best looking hot hatch around IMO - better looking that the R32 (which is just wrong).

You will probably still lose more money over 3 years with the GTi compared to the VRs because you pay more in the first place.

i.e.

GTI

I would have gone for the Golf/Leon if I didn't have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. The space that the Octy offers is utterly invaluable for me. One other thing for me that is very important is that I like the understated nature of the Octy as I did with the MkI.

You can't argue about the residuals. As Mark says though, the extra outlay does have to come from somewhere.

Or you could buy an approved, used Golf with Warranty and laugh all the way to the bank ;)

Regarding residuals, I got 50% back after 3 years ownership of my 2004 1.9TDi Elegance (130bhp). I don't think the residuals between the Octavia and the Golf are as far apart as they were.

Dave.

There's other factors to consider obviously and at the end of the day you'll always lose money on a new car but just because a car has rock solid residuals doesn't mean you'll necessarily lose less on depreciation because as I said above you often pay more in the first place.

That's a fair point - but if I could afford it and didn't require the additional space the Occt requires I'd be going for the Golf

Bah get the Octy. Id love a MK2 and even the mrs would approve :o

I really want a golf but I can not just think how much more there are . A golf will fit in the garage with space and octavia will just fit with about a 10mm left "ouch"

P.S I dont think G5VRS would look any good on a golf?

If I had to have a car as a soul mate it would be the GTi. The most complete and 'class-less' car IMO. I would love to have a new Mark 5. A second hand one would have been within my reach, but I would have wanted the larger alloys and the leather. The only problem and the only thing that stopped me was practicality, the vRS wins this hands down. Getting a Silver Cross Sleepover Chassis into the boot of my Mk4 is a nightmare and I realised shortly after HRH was born I would have to go for a much bigger boot and 4 doors. After reading a comparison between the Golf and an vRS about a year ago the seed was sewn in my head. As my Mk 4 was causing me problems (and to be fair had always been a bit niggly....two clutches and a leaking boot!) the Octy was a no brainer, especially with the small amount of money I had saved.

I like to see the vRS as the family Golf. The real middle classes don't drive Audis or BMWs they drive Skodas. Once you see past the badge snobbery and mature drivers do, you are left with very few reasons not to choose the Octy.....well that's how I see it anyway. :)

I can see this beeing a long one 5 years ago I was in the same head **** I was looking at geting a VRS octy then I was clocking on miles I wanted the gti OILBURNER then. I looked at geting L+K as but they only did 110 bhp at time because skoda was not in to pd 130,s yet so I got GTTDI 130 wow had it chip at amd to 175. I was well impresed had car for 3 years then I wanted a S3 because at the time. I had the money and just wanted one 225 on 52 plate sold golf for 12k only paid 15k for the car S3 cost 16k only had car for 6 month peed off that going from derv to petrol dont get me the S3 was a very very nice car "bose" the lot but petrol? 23mpg well thats how I drove it the golf was 40-45mpg ish. So sold S3 and got the vrs fabia VERY NICE LITTLE CAR but I got a bad colour "BLACK" wish I got silver or red after a year you can see all the hair line marks chips and scrips that you cant see with silver or red just black is the worst colour BACK TO THE SUBJECT WHAT DO I GET MY HEAD SO **** UP OUCH

And breath....

Just get the Golf if you don't need the room of the vRS. Looks kinda cool and different in white too if you fancy a change. :)

Depending on the options you choose you may get one off the shelf so to speak. Best to ask a dealer to see what's at the docks.

I spotted one at Sparshatts of Chichester which is a 2006 model with green calipers. Brand new and unregistered.

I reckon you could bend them over on a deal for that as it's no longer a current model.

I reckon with some hard negotiation

It has been superceeded by the 2007 MY cars with red calipers, MP3 socket and Stream MP3 radio so list a few changes.
