I'm waiting for the 2nd generation PS3 :)

IMO I don't think there will be much if any profit in buying several PS3's to sell on straight away, not like the xb0x360 and Wii anyway.

there aint going to be a shortage of ps3's at launch sony have either made lots of consoles or they are struggling to sell the amount they have allocated to uk plus they are losing more exclusive games .. im waiting before i buy a ps3 till there are games i want on the system but the ways its going they wont have many exclusives left :D

is it true that when you put the games disc a machine you cant play it in another ps3?

sounds like complete balls to me, how would another machine know? what happens if your breaks and you get another one?

:iagree:

How would Sony benefit from such a restriction?

It would only push customers away (even further)

He's ordered 4 but is going to get refunds on the ones that he doesnt want. Hes going to see if its worth while selling them on first and if they aint he will take them back for a refund  Not a great idea IMO but anywho, if I can get a PS3 out of it ... :D

Although I do agree with waiting for a 2nd gen one, good idea

Actually, rumour is Sony did talk about doing that earlier on in the PS3's development, but probably quickly realised it would never sell another console again.

Well it would push people towards piracy or another console altogether so wouldn't make very good business sense.

Horray! I'm an Early Adopter! PS3 arrives on Friday from Th'Argos. I went to my local generic mall based outlet today and there were still loads of ads for pre ordering PS3's, so I think the market will be flooded.

I saw ads in HMV, Virgin Megastore, Game, Debenhams, House of Fraser, WH Smith, Th'Argos, Poundland (no I'm joking).

Yesterday in Th'Adsa, Morrisons, Tesco, and the local corner shop.

My plan was to see if it was any good and if not then sell on Ebay. I may have to revise that plan.

I seem to remember paying

What games are the ones to get though? I may start another thread....

That was going to be my next question :P

£450 is just ridiculous for a console, and especially one that doesn't seem to have any really good games (one that push the boundaries of gameplay, not just sound or graphics)

Blu-Ray is already dead though. Sony have said they will not allow porn on Blu-Ray, and it was the porn industry that settled the VHS vs. Betamax battle.

HD-DVD ftw ;)

I hadn't heard that  what a distaster if that's true.

It is expensive as a games console, but it's a cracking blu-ray player. I watched Casino Royale the other night in surround sound and full 1080p on a projector and it was better than the cinema

If you look at it just as a games console, it is expensive, but when you look at what it can do in other domains (which are continually improving with software updates), it's actually not bad value for money IMHO. The processing power of the Cell chip will allow you to do pretty much anything. I'm waiting for the new software update 1.6 to try the Folding @ Home client. Should be pretty quick :D

Games-wise, I love mine to bits and it does look gorgeous if you have a big 1080p display. I've had mine for a couple of months (brought back from Japan) and love it to bits :)

Ive heard that too, but is it just a rumour in order to kill bluray? I thought Sony were just considering it.

But at the time that was the only choice to watch it apart from 'art' cinemas and swingers partys.

Now you have Satellite TV, VHS (somewhere) and DVD. As Blu-ray players still play DVD and I don't think you will get HD quality porn for a long time given that most of them seem to be filmed with not quite broadcast quality cameras, I doubt there is a need or want for HD DVD porn at the moment. Unless you want to listen to Shaving private Ryan in surround sound (although you could get that in normal dvd anyway)

Hmm, Ive just had an idea for a thread...

its true sony are not allowing porn on blu-ray its down to disney complaining about it . it happened ages ago it wasnt that well publicised except on most gaming forums . the ps3 should be a success due to the fact its sony but as i said before the 360 has a much better gpu and is easier to develop for so its going to be the main platform to develop for instead of ps3

but as i said before the 360 has a much better gpu and is easier to develop for so its going to be the main platform to develop for instead of ps3

That was the case with PS2 as well, it took time for the developers to get to grips with the intricaces of the machine and it's hardware, whereas the Xbox relies on PC architecture and given that ir's a microsoft system, it more than likely has some similar code to windows that has been around in on form or another for 20 years, so it would have been be easier to make games anyway.

yeah i know what your saying but the 360 gpu can do things the ps3 gpu cant plus the cell cpu in the ps3 is v v v difficult to develop for not to mention expensive also the ps3 doesnt have many great exclusives left as most are going multi- platform and if the 360 is the primary development platform it will have the better looking games... but its all down to preference .at the moment the ps3 has not done anything that makes me want to go and buy one i may get one in the future but for the next 6-12 months i cant see me buying one

With the xbox360 they moved to a risc based platform (like the PS3 and Wii) so if anything it's now closer to a PowerMac...

Blu-Ray is gonna die, simple as that.

i know some of you are saying that the porn industry isn't worth listening to but apparently they are among the first and quickest to use latest technologies and put a lot of money into it as a result. if one of the biggest industries doesn't use Blu-Ray then it will struggle and probably go the way of BetaMax :)

The PS3 may seem like a good buy when you consider its a HD player but if that HD standard dies then it goes back to being an expensive console, yes it might be able to do other things what can it do that a PC can't and how many buyers that will use these functions won't have a PC anyway?

Can Sony stop people from putting whatever they want on a media? Thats like buying a batch of CD's and being told you can put music on them but not porn. Or a pack of paper and only being able to put writing on it, but no pictures.
