Rear Fog Light help URGENTLY needed

Featured Replies

Hi all,

This goes out mainly to VRStu but also anyone else who can help.

I just picked up a 07 model vRS and i took it to a VW/Skoda garage today in Germany. I asked them to switch on the second foglight for me. They said it was a re-wire. Told them i had codes for computer. They connected car to computer and i even stood there and watched them do this. I provided the codes from VRStu website and the guy went through the whole thing. However when he tried the lights it was still only the drivers side that lit up. He then rang skoda who said the codes provided are for pre 07 models and there is no code for the new version it is a rewire only fix. This is no good for me as i drive frequently between Germany and UK and im not paying

I presume you have just the one rear fog on the right side of the car and need one the left for continental motoring.

I don't suppose it is as simple as getting a 2-2.5m length of two core electrical wire and connect one side to the other, put a bulb in and bingo - twin rear fogs! I've done this on cars before (20-25 years ago) when UK-Continental motoring and it worked a treat.

I suppose though that it will be too simple a job for today's high-tech CAN-BUS eletric'd Octavia and some computer will trip up a warning light and say - Can't do this!!

Hi

VrsStu will know better than me - but I suspect that by simply splicing another wire - you will make the central body controller ECU sulk - as it will be sensing too much current draw to feed two bulbs.

Unfortunately most modern cars use CANbus technology to reduce wiring - this means that some of the older "fixes" are much more difficult to do these days!

Cheers

Steve

Hi vrsSteve.

When you took your car do you now have both lights working or does only the passenger side one work.

Also is your car a red or green brake calliper version

Your help is appreciated mate and im osnabruck

Cheers

There is no need to put an extra wire in as far as I know. Mine is 2007 MY with red and mine works without any additional wiring.

I'll make some investiations and see what I can find. I'm assuming you've checked the obvious and found that there is a bulb in it.

Maybe also have a look at 46 Central Convenience

Deffo works on a '06 car, Stu did it on mine this afternoon  .

Stu's is an '07 model and I find it rather odd that Skoda would change the wiring so that it could not be re coded  .

By any chance did you try setting up the Rain Closing or come acroos it when browsing. Bascially if windows left open & it rains the windows will close automatically.

If someone is looking at coding for the Fogs issue could you see what might activate the Rain Closing.

I would imagine that must have something to with rain sensing wipers but I'm guessing.

These were the screen shots taken earlier -

14041.attach

It does alright, but I'd love to find out if it can be set up on the early models.

I assume this was after the 2nd Fog was activated.

I'm not questioning what you've done, just trying to understand the way the options are listed and selectable.

In this case Byte 3 Bit 1 is Ticked so according to the description 1= 1 Fog Light, is it me or does it seem like the opposite of this should be the case to have BOTH Rear Fogs working ie 0 = 2 Rear Fog Lights (so it would be Unticked ).

I hope I'm not confusing the situation.

No need to touch Byte three, that's how it is. I just posted that up so that Carl could check if his was the same.

However - remember we are talking binary here so it's 1's & 0's so Bit 1 carries a 0.

Still, if the car ships with that bit set to 1, which is for 1 rear foglight, should it not be set to 0 (for 2 rear fog lights) once the setting in Byte 4 has been changed , in the same way the next bit is set to 0 for 2 reversing lights...

That's why I grabbed the screen shot so it could be confirmed.

i am also in osnabruck and need to get my rear fog light changed ive been told the local skoda dealership does it for 30-40 euros and they get both working.

I've been to three dealers. Two failed to activate both rear fogs despite being given the codes from the experts on this site and the other didn't know what I was talking about. In desperation I linked the wires from both sides. Two rear fog lights now work but the bulb failure warning light comes on if the rear fogs are switched on. Also the left/right parking lights (using the indicator stalk) are messed up with both rear parking lights coming on - not just the side you want.

I then placed an inline fuse in my linking wire so that I can de-activate the nearside lamp when driving in the UK. It's a simple matter to replace the fuse when in France. However I'm still dubious about the effect on the electical system.
