Felicia Exhaust trouble!

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a clue about this?

I have an s reg felicia. I got a new exhaust fitted a couple of weeks ago, and despite several return visits, and the garage claiming they have replaced the exhaut twice, it still makes a terrible rattling noise when driven. It is a little better when only the driver is in it, but as soon as a passenger, or the 2 little kids get in, rattle rattle rattle all the time. Its driving me insane. The garage are now saying it could be the catalyst, but the noise is only coming from the back, and you can see the damn exhaust shuddering when it is moving! It is the exhaust! My old exhaust never made a sound, even when the car was laden!

Has anyone else ever had this problem? What on earth can I do? Are the mechanics trying to take me for a fool? When we took it back the first time they managed to make it stop rattling, but when we had the mot done the very next day the mechanic there (different garage!) said they had bodged the exhaust, it already had a hole in, and they had stopped it from rattling with sealant! Needless to say I dont have a huge amount of confidence in this exhaust garage!

Any advice?

It may just be the exhaust rattling against the heat shield at the back - it may not have the correct rubber mountings. Try taking it somewhere else, see if they will have a quick look at it.

:iagree:

either that or it's rattliung against the rear axle beam

Try bringing it to HONEST mechanic.

I never have the same problem like yours. Mine was quite old and needed a new one so i tried gibson exhaust. For now, i don't have complains on it.

Thats what was up with mine! A new rubber sorted it.

It may not be the exhaust at all, it could be the brake compensator valve rattling.

ditto

i have the same prob

don't hear a lot of thuds/bangs when i'm in car on my own

but as soon as i have any passengers it starts mostly when going slowly................. 1st to 2nd to 3rd gear

started after getting new back box fitted.....went back and got it looked at by same(honest/nice) guy .he said that there isn't a matching rubber mount for the box ,cable tied it a bit but it didn,t make much difference

personally it doesn't worry me too much as i only use my baby to get me to work and back ...therefore only me in car=two or three thuds when setting off first thing in morn

but sometimes give the boss a lift 500metres home from work and the noises can be a bit concerning..so would also like a solution if anyone has any fancy ideas

thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

I would go down to a motor factors and get a new set of mounting rubbers. This should only be a few quid. I had the same problem with mid and back section banging off the axle beam. New rubbers sorted it out. Incidently i haven't got a heat sheild on mine!!

cable tye the rubbers!

:) The noise could from INSIDE the exhaust, ie loose baffles.
