You will be lucky to get a discount on a new Skoda in Norfolk.I have bought 6 over the last 23 years and have never got a penny off.Mudflaps, side rubbing strips and seat covers are the best I could get.We (wife and I )have even walked out,and they let us but went back later.I suppose if you want a discount you have to lower your sights and buy a Ford,

Hi,

I will give you the quick reason why car sales people try to sell the 'extra' insurances. I am a Mortgage Advisor and Financial Advisor by trade so I recommend/sell and advise on various insurances to clients on a day to day basis. The FSA(Financial Services Authority) regulates GI(General Insurance) amongst various other financial products, you could say they are the watchdog of the Financial industry. As a customer who is none the wiser of what insurance products to choose, you would feel out of your depth and looking for advice on the best thing to do. Personally,I wouldnt trust a car sales man as far as a could throw them to start with, thats before they tried selling/recommending me insurances.

Car sales men will only recommend you take insurances through them for one reason only, to make money. Commission payments on selling insurance is reasonably high especially if you can manage to sell a couple a week.

Car sales men will recommend the insurance even if the insurance you are buying does not suit your needs.

Never buy insurace without reading through it carefully, every insurance product is different, just because it says gap insurance doesnt it is the same as anoother each policy through a different provider is underwritten differently.

If in doubt ask for advice through a Financial Advisor or an insurance specialist.

Just because the a car sales men mensions the FSA, it doesnt mean the product is right for you.

Hope this is of use.

Dave

gap is a must

I wouldn't say it's a "must" - it depends on your circumstances. Some products bridge the gap between your insurance and the value of a new car whilst others only bridge the gap between your insurance and the remaining finance amount.

DONT PAY THAT MUCH FOR GAP INSURANCE FROM THE DEALER!

I did buy the GAP insurance from my dealer (DM Keith in Ossett) and was able to get it for a lot better price than they originally wanted just by saying I didn't want to pay that much and keeping on! Think I got it for

sounds like you got a bad deal from the dealers.

I got a heafty chunk off the list price (and fuelled up way past full) and I paid cash :)

Thanks again for all the replies.

Although I wasn't too happy with the deal, the 0% finance also means I don't pay any of the acceptance fees or option to purchase fees (or whatever they are called) I think the latter was over £100 in itself on my last one.

I'm really pleased with the car, only done about 50 miles in it so far, its just been doted over in the garage really!
