VRS 1 seats - leather cleaning/maintenance?

Featured Replies

Having just returned from a week in Wales with the bikes, the seats are looking a bit the worse for wear, with mud ingrained into the leather on the passenger seat (due to father taking a header into the only muddy part of Wales!).

The previous owner also seemed to be a mountain biker because the areas of the seat squabs that sit under the backrests in the rear are pretty dirty, and there's mud inbetween the base and back of the front seats.

I followed the manual's instructions about cleaning - mild soapy solution and then followed it up with an application of Autoglym Leather Care, but it doesn't seem to have done much - indeed, the leather looks, if anything, dryer.

Can anyone recommend a good cleaning product and leathercare product for the VRS1 seats?

The other alternative is to get it property (and expensively!) valeted, I suppose...

I use Gliptones Liquid Leather cleaner & conditioner. It's great stuff

A nice cheap one (but test a small area first) much to my horror when I let the missus clean the seats in my Octy I wandered out to see how she was progressing only to find she had used Stardrops cleaner, watereed down, for the inside of the car. I was expecting dried out knackered seats but much to my surprise they came up lovely. The only other thing that I now let her use :-)) is a leather feeder that all leather products should get treated with, we just use a common or garden sofa variety from the supermarket (such as bees wax) etc. rather than one from a car shop which for some reason attract a higher price.

Ta, give that a try.

both the cheapest and so far the best way i have found of really softening and making the leather feel great is just plain boot polish.go careful not to get it on the mesh though:eek:

Skoda sell their own marketed brand which i bought when i got the car, its more of a leather feed, but it leaves a lovely smell and softens the leather up a treat...not expensive either IIRC? Mines lasting ages!

Ive spend 2 hours today with Megs Gold Class Leather on mine ans would look great except it now shows how dirty the white mesh is :(

Ahh well cant have it all

I have been know to wear light trousers... don't think that's a starter, TBH!

Your real name Don Johnson by any chance?

Boot polish? Original...!!

Gliptone recommended here too.

Hi, whats the best way to clean the white/silver mesh cloth? I've used Meguairs Interior Carpet Cleaner on the upholstery but it only leaves clean sploges?

Yeah, I've found that with the Meg's carpet cleaner does that too. I have a small Vax wet/dry car vac now, which is very good. But maybe of more use to you is the 'AAA' solution they sell for it. Available in Tesco, B&Q etc. That, in a fairly strong solution with a J-cloth, is what I'd use. It's quite cheap too.

Alternatively, I'd pay a decent local recommended valeter £25 to clean them properly! That's what I tend to do with the cars I buy, then just attend to any build-up afterwards with the Vax.

so long as you buff it off properly it is absolutely fine, been using it for years.in fact the leather in my new car was looking a bit worse for wear and is quite worn especially on the sides but after an hour and a few coats of boot polish nobody that saw it before can believe that it is the same interior.

just rub it in with a clean cloth and buff it back off with one of your missus's polishing cloths:thumbup:

dont knock it until you have tried it:rolleyes:

no worries bud,you would need to be very very careful not to get it on the mesh anyhow but seriously it works a treat on the leather:thumbup:
