best diesel for fabia vrs

Featured Replies

i pick up my fabia vrs and i am wondering which diesel is best to use with it to give best performance & fuel economy, i run my escort gti on optimax at the moment which gives very good result, is there such a thing as performance diesel or will any diesel from and filling station do.

also are supermarket diesel fuel ok for this or is best to avoid

I've always avoided supermarket fuel unless I can help it. For performance diesel you have two choices:

BP ultimate dielsel: which is now more or less all around the country and is the same price as Ultimate petrol (super unleaded to you and me), or

Shell diesel plus: Only in the north at the moment so I have not tried it, but it is similar to BP ultimate diesel (apparently) and is replacing regular diesel at their pumps, so the price is unchanged.

You can add to this Millers diesel plus fuel treatment, which you add to every tank to help improve performance as well.

You can try BP ultimate, but when I had a session on it it wasn't worth the extra 5p+ a litre, and I'm now happily belting around quickly with a Jabba remap and using City diesel from Sainsburys at 74.9 ppl. (a wee bit better than the local price for Ultimate at the moment! ;))

I've just started using BP ultimate and the car is definitely smoother and less smokey.

Not sure about performance but I'm going to keep using it

Shell Diesel Extra is spreading. I have it now in the Glasgow area but it was supposidly still for the North of England only. It is the same price as regular diesel and seems to go futher. As for noise, and performance, I haven't noticed it yet but this is only the 3rd tankfull of the stuff.

where abouts in glasgow?

As long as you use branded fuel you wont have a problem, and if you want to help it further then Millers Diesel Power Plus will help the combustion and fuel consumption.

On a personal note, I only use branded fuel and always with Millers, which I am able to tell when isnt in the fuel. As yet I havent tried any of the new breed of "high performance" diesels, and to be honest the extra cost I feel is excessive, but that is just my opinion. I do wonder sometimes about the placebo effect of some of these things though.

Shell at the airport has it, and is 24hrs, at 75.5p a litre, not really Glasgow but close enough. Paisley Rd. West Shell has it but is more expensive than the airport.

I always use Millers Dieselclean/Powerplus and usually BP Ultimate diesel (now that I've finally found a local source!)

It seems perkier and smoother than with some supermarket fuels, but maybe just placebo effect! ;)
