i think that i might have to drill into the top of the suspension parts to fit this as the strutbrace comes with 8 selftappin (metal) screws. im abit nervous about doing this what do you think? if this is what i have to do what size bit should i use (ie how much smaller should the bit be compared to the screw?)

I wouldn't be drilling in there personally.

8 self tapping screws are not going to hold the thing in place much compared to 4 nuts and bolts through the bodywork.

Drilling should be ok, I had to do this to fit the Audi S3 brace onto my old MK1 vRS. When drilling, mark, check, recheck and check again as you get no second chance. Also once drilled paint the now exposed metal, doesnt matter what colour as once the brace is fitted you wont see it.

I'd agree that self tapping screws wont be good enough. To fit the S3 brace I used M8 galvanised nuts and bolts.

Are you sure you used galvanised nuts and bolts and not stainless steel or zinc ones?

Were they hot dipped galv ones as theses are very hard to come by.I would use stainless steel ones:)

i have test fitted it now before any drilling and it doesnt seem to fit as you cant close the bonnet so i dont know what ill do now :(

I've heard there are a few which get in the way of the bonnet. I think the Sparco one fits, as does the S3. I'm not sure about others. Some people have cut away parts of the bonnet reinforcement but it's not something I would be happy doing.

Send it back I guess...

Look on the plus point, at least you tested it before you drilled :)

yea glad i checked as i really wouldnt have been happy if i drilled it then it wouldnt fit. ive emailed them to find out what next. so the strutbrace from strutbracer.co.uk DOESNT FIT its made by OMP. also i checked and they say its the same strut for the golf Mk4 TDi !!!

I'd just get the one for an Audi or if there is one fitted to the Leon Cupra R find out if that would fit.
