DSLR's - some opinions?

Looked at a Nikon D80 and a Canon Eos 40D in Jessops... and the Cannon was more expensive, but you could feel where the extra money went.

And the lens in the package seemed to be a better one on the Canon... so it seems like my mind is made up!

If you were thinking of a D80 and were leaning towards the 40D, have you had a look at the D200? I reckon you could get a nice deal on that and would be under the grand mark. The D200 is miles apart from the D80 and whilst it looks quite similar to use at first, you soon notice all the nice pro features it has on top.

I think from the comparisons I have read and seen, the Canon 40D is a little better overall compared to the 200D Nikon, if not as good as the 300D (but you can get a Canon 5D for around the cost of a 300D at the moment). I still think that Canon has the edge with/because of a larger amount of accessories and lenses etc. But I agree that the difference is very small and can understand anyone wanting to go down the Nikon route instead of the Canon one. I am obviously biased to my 350D Canon which has provided sterling service for the last coupe of years (and some pretty rough treatment too)

Some fantastic reviews on there; really helped me when I was looking to dive back in to the SLR market. I opted for a Nikon D70s in the end and I have to say, I'd never move away from them! Next stop D300.

Having very nearly bought the Sony A700 in January, I am glad I resisted the urge. Sony have announced a full frame DSLR for later this year. Looks like it will be a bit high on pixel count (24Mp), but with my collection of lenses, this could be a belter.

Chris

24MP  - good grief, has the world gone mad?!?

Not looking forward to the filesize per shot on full res Chris :D

Me neither, but with the right lenses, this gives close to medium format image quality from an SLR. Pretty much the only camera a hobbyist could ever need. Still get to crop for long shots and reatain high resolution too.

My intuition tells me it aint going to be cheap though:rolleyes:
