climate control?

Featured Replies

i have an 51 plate octavia VRS with the standard climatronic:)

the problem i have is that it dosnt seem that cold when on low which is not good due to the stange warm weather weve been having:confused:

i had air con in my scooby which was simple to use air con button on- cold air

but i dont know if its just the way my climate is set up or it might need re-gassing

any ideas on how to use it best as i havent got a manual:confused:

ive done a quick search and cant fid a definate answer other than the climate control can be a bit temprimental

If the air coming out of the vents is ambient temp then it could be a number of things including broken compressor, broken condensor, to a simple regas. If the air is cold but not that cold, then a regas is most likely all thats needed.

You really need an aircon specialist to look at it. Mobile ones are quiet cheap, I had a leak fixed in my Boxster and it cost about £70 including the regas.

You haven't got it set on ECON have you? If it displays ECON on the right of the screen then LO will be as cool as it can go without using the AC compressor (so just outside temperature basically.

cheers guys

with econ off it does seem a bit cooler, i presume econ stands for economy which is why its not so cold

yes economy mode is econ. took me ages to get use to climate control. setting it at a temperature doesn't mean the air comes out at that temperature. it maintains the seleted temperature, by putting hot or cold air into the cabin to reach it.

most with climate control leave it on auto all the time. forget econ mode. mine is set at 20 auto and I never touch it on a hot or cood day. seems to be a good all weather temperature.

Mines mostly on econ for extra power ;)

Mine is mostly turned off because it's a pain in the ****!

I just leave mine on auto - never had a problem with it. Unlike in my old A4 which used to randomly be either too hot or too cold and I was always fiddling with it!.

Order a manual from a Skoda dealer. The part number is S6356102120 and the price is around £5.

I leave my current octy on auto as well, never had any problems. The mk1 vrs was left on auto for 4 years before I sold it.

If the word econ is on the display then the A/C part is disabled therefore the climate control has no cooling capability at all. Same for the MK2 dual zone except that its an LED and not text.

If it's only a bit cooler on auto then a re-gas is on the cars, you might as well get it cleaned out at the same time and also get the clutch on the compressor checked to make sure it isn't working loose.

Agreed with "leave it on auto". In this weather I can't point the centre vents directly at myself cos it gives me a headache!

I had 2 Scoobies before my vRS and both the Scoobies had air conditioning that got really cold and were also very quick to demist the windscreens. The so called climate control in the vRS doesn't really have the ability to cool the cabin down much and is all but useless at clearing the screen and keeping it clear on a damp day.

IMO the climate in the Octy makes the sunroof more or less superfluous (and that's as a fan of sunroofs).

Sunroof? Show off:)

There must be something wrong, my MK1 vRS was like the arctic inside if you put the climate onto the LO setting, external temp was 30c. Get the gas pressure checked out, the air from the vents should be freezing.

Climate and sunroof both standard on the Elegance! Why?

Has anyone successfully recharged their own AC?

For cooling on hot days and plenty of fresh air on warm days. And on very hot days, when the car has been parked, to let all that hot air out so that the air con can take effect sooner. HTH. :D

For the sake of £20 more id rather let someone else do it and they will more than likely do a leak check if you ask them so you know the gas is staying in the system

Elegance also has electric windows all round. I like sunroofs, but could still live without one in the circs!

Skoda charge £85 for an A/C service, a clean through and a recharge.

Pretty good IMHO.

Depends on if you trust the deal not to faff it up... :-)

I did my old Mondeo using the kit that you can buy from Halfords. The big issue is the pressure, so sometimes its not possible to empty the can or get close to the required pressure due to the pressure in the can not being sufficent to get into the A/C system. The Boxster I had done properly by a mobile a/c company, cost me
