unusually for BMW the 4 cylinder diesel engines lack character, the 1 series interiors are cheap and nasty and they're cramped. If I had that kind of ££ to spend I wouldn't buy one.

They follow the same tradition as BMW's of old, being very nice to drive but fully geared around paying for a badge at the end of the day. After owning several BMW's I now feel qualified to comment on the subject. The poverty spec, ludicruous servicing costs and naff reliability kind of left a bad taste in my mouth I'm afraid. Badge snobbery is a fools game.

The BMW diesels are known for turbo and injector failure too. It's frighteningly common which you would not expect on a 20k plus car.

Also, the comment about buying an old M5 and it being cheaper to run overall than a Fabia vRS is laughable. That's based on the assumption that a highly strung 10 year old car would never go wrong. Poppycock.

BMW's spend the same if not more time at garages as most other marques, and a high end car like that is really going to sting the wallet. The amount of M3's and M5's I saw at the indy's with stupid common failures was unreal. The bills regularly came to over £1k and the smitten owners paid it cos they saw it as a worthy cause. This is of course in addition to the fact you've got the age of the car to contend with and the fact old Beemers rust like hell. Heck, even 1998 E36's corrode like buggery in certain places.

My vRS has not cost me a penny out of the ordinary since I bought it which was my reason for purchase in the first place. The warranty has come in very handy a few times but that's what it's there for. I fuel, tax, insure and clean it and job's a goodun. My last BMW cost me hundreds in repairs cos the damn thing kept going wrong. In many cases it's just not financially viable to run an old car. Sure it costs less to purchase but if you base your money saving opinions on that alone you're extremely naiive.

You had a bad day today Chrispy?

Nah, I'm just sick of a Fabia foum being used to debate BMW's, Golfs, Fiat Coupes and Rover 214's.

I think this was Welshies revenge for the previous thread similarly titled that he got attacked in. the BMW thing grew from there.

Still love Beemers though:peepwall:

LOL. They're not that special believe me.

The best thing about them is their driving dynamics. Very involving, precise, well balanced and smooth.

It's a shame nearly everything is an optional extra and they tend to fall apart.

But, I actually prefer the Fabia to drive believe it or not. It's miles more fun cos it's quirky. Besides, I don't feel like as much of a **** behind the wheel of something a little more understated.

You try telling a BMW fanatic you're not interested in their car. They'll hate you for it. The whole point of owning that blue and white roundel for many of them is simply to keep up appearances.

Running around in a gutless 318i without leather, A/C or any other mod cons for that matter cos you spent all your money adding an Mtec kit and non hideous alloys to the package. It's insane.

Been ther and done that. I was told by a work colleague (this happened at work) that if I hadn’t been a woman, the BMW owner would had smacked me in the face! HARD! He said he got RESPECT for driving his old M5. I liked his car but had asked him how he coped with people thinking he was a pric or words to that extent.

Personally, I like Mazdas.;)

 Silly man, pink bin of course :P ;)

Any bin will do as long as it isn't coming back!

Ah the Golf Gtbin, a great vehicle if I recall correctly. Sorry, what were we talking about again?? :D

I had a 214si. Sold it and got the Fabia, and the chap who bought it (about 20 months ago, I think) has just scrapped it. Only had 24k on it when I sold it but his wife managed to destroy it in under two years. Poor thing.

Well with regard to the high BMW servicing costs how about their 5 year & 8 years fixed servicing package which is transferrable with the car?

5yrs is

Can you not start a thread with the right subject in the general car chat section rather than discussing everything but fabia in the fabia section.

It sounds like a walking BMW advert at the moment.

The general section is here just in case you can't find it!

I completely agree. Do us all a favour; If you want to talk about Golfs, Beemers and other stuff just stick it in the General thread.

Despite us asking nicely, and then getting quite agitated about it you continued to chat this drivel.

Please stop it.

Here we go again - didnt you 2 read the first post of this thread? Or if your not interested in this why do you keep reading it and why keep posting to it? If your not interested fine dont contribute. Please act accordingly.

Were here discussing cars their pros & cons all vs the pros & cons of the Fab vRS. I dont want to hear about the pros & cons of the Superb or Octavia which is what would happen in the general car folder.

To be honest with you even considering comparing a BMW to a vRS is high praise indeed yet you cannot read between the lines. Imagine 5-10 years ago even considering it they would just lol in your face now however its different.

In addition with the new Fabia just launched Skoda have raised their prices and as Autocar states it is no longer the bargain it once was so now it is competeing on quality & performance alone - it will be interesting to see how it does.

With regard to the rusty Beemers - if thats true surely owners should write to Watchdog or its a warrenty claim i.e. the 12 years anti corrosion warrenty.

Ok look stop being an ****..

This is the fabia section if you look in the description this thread should not be in here:

The fabia section is for:

Includes all models of Fabia, except the 2007 new Fabia.

General Car Chat is for:

Cars, cars and more cars. Skoda, VAG or any other marque. Want to show off your latest go faster bits? Seen an exotic supercar? Discuss it here.

Ok so you see it is you that is in the "wrong" if anyone is, and you who is being rediculous. You started the thread up again even after a mod had closed it down.

Now STFU!
