MW with a Blaupunkt Woodstock

Featured Replies

For some reason, my blaupunkt woodstock dab 53 will not pick up MW (not everywhere has a decent DAB signal for 5 live/talksport), I had the same problem with my previous sony minidisc headset, can anyone help.

Jeff, are you using the original aerial for am/fm. Sounds like the internal powered amplifier in that is not working.

Yes, I don't have the beesting. It may not have an internal amp as the Sony I had before had the same problem in both my Fabias, although the OEM HU was fine

(never used the current one, it is in a box in my loft).

It does sound like a signal prob. You can buy an external antenna amp from halfords, might be worth giving that a try.

cheers manny, I was thinking of that, But I wanted to see if there were any other suggestions first

When Halfords fitted my Woodstock LW/MW was inop. After they fitted a power feed adaptor or something similar it worked fine. It only took 5 mins to fit. Maybe worth talking to a friendy ice fitter at Halfords who can advise you on what to buy. Halfords are fitting loads of these, as they have the best good deal by far - so their fitters know the units inside out.

Word of warning to others though - my experience was far from brilliant, they took 3 attempts to fit it properly but I'm really pleased with the final result.

Did they fit a glass mount aerial by an chance? If so what's the quality like with these- is the extra cash for a bee-sting (DAB/AM/FM) radio worthwhile?

only in the looks department. I have the glass mount placed on the top right of my windscreen, and the only problem I have had is when i first use the wipers, I get a bit of interferance, but it soon clears up.

Jeff, I'm pretty sure it's an amplifier problem.

I think the OEM aerial on the roof has an amplifier built-in. The OEM HU gives a 12V bias up the aerial lead to power the amp, giving proper AM/MW reception.

Now that you have the woodstock, you are no longer feeding the amplifier power required to beef up the signal.

A little aerial booster should work fine. About a tenner in halfords.

I have one but haven't fitted it yet as I only listen to FM which you can get away with without the aerial. They need a 12V signal to work properly - just give it the remote feed from the HU. I've taken mine apart to fix the wire which had become detached and all it does is insert 12V up the aerial lead, but take it out on the lead which goes to the HU (to stop frying it!!!)

I've already seen the bit I need in the Car Audio Centre, but the price has put me off for a while.
