Remapped Fabia Vrs to sell or not to sell ?

Featured Replies

Not posted on here for a while as i have recenlty joined the property ladder with my wife to be. I am in the situation were we now have 2 cars my 2004 Vrs and a Punto 130 Sporting , we work togther also so only ever really use one car, which tends to be hers . Its quite a nice car but is very slow and when i drive thr VRs after a spell with the Punto it makes me really love the power and driving experience of my Vrs. The question im faced with is this ...Does the shear pleasure of driving the fabia really outway the sense in having one car in the household ???

Has anyone been faced with a similar experience? Im kinda on the verge of putting the VRs up for sale on here ! The amount of interest in my car could also sway me !

Cheers

If you prefer the Fabia then why not sell the Punto :P

She likes her car better , plus its an 06 plate with 2.5 years warranty left, mine is coming out of warrany end of july so makes more sense i guess to get rid of the older car!

Its a FIAT... will fall to bits much quicker! ;)

sell the both and buy a new vrs with the money?

There is no way you can keep a punto over a Fabia!!!

don't say that, Sharkrider off the forum has just bought one

Than a Fabia? You're joking right?!

Why not sell the Fabia and get the Punto chipped/remapped?

Thats ok then, should stop it falling apart

Well how about this - clearly the vRS is worth much less than the Punto and therefore with regard to depreciation there is less to lose in the first place.

As for warrenty well the last brand new car I bought I serviced it myself from day 1 saved a mint on the dealer servicing and nothing went wrong. If anything serious like recalls were needed then thats all covered. Everything else i.e. corrosion is irrespective of where / how you service it.

Ignore the warrenty as in the vast majority of cases they are never used + as you have owned your car for a long time now I guess you have been maintaining it accordingly so nothing should go wrong.

You've obviously been lucky then! In my opinion warranties are becoming more and more essential due to that fact that cars are getting pretty much impossible to fix yourself. I would have agreed with you 10-15 years ago, but not now. My last car (a Peugeot) destroyed it's engine just before it's 4th birthday, and the repairs cost over

Well the thing here is I fit genuine parts and always keep the receipts (and sad as it sounds I always keep the old parts in the garage/shed.

So everything is changed when it should be with genuine parts = valid warrenty.

I assume you're a VAT registered garage then ;)

Chris

No - but I am a VAT registered consultant (ltd comp).

Nope!

Well actually I can't speak for the Grande Punto, but the old Mk2 was badly made!

I recently helped a friend out replacing the battery in a Fiat Punto 55 - the engine bay is tiny yet the engine was so small I think the battery was bigger than the head & block lol.

It had covered 100k+ on a Pish reg - looked very tired & the engine was clearly loosing oil from the rocker cover - yet she started and sounded very sweet.

There's a thought at the back of my mind that you might end up selling both cars in order to run one... It could work out as a good compromise but you have to manage expectations! Alfa 156 JTD look tasty but I wouldn't buy one without a good deal of research.

Why not sell both, then decide together what one car to replace them with? :rubchin:

Moving in together? That'll be a nice sensible MPV then ;)

Chris

i personally would keep the fabia but you gotta think of the long run........................................

how much nagging you can take for getting rid of the wifes car ;)

i would prefer 2 cars but if i have to have one i would like it to be a good one , 120D M Sport or Leon FR TDI. If we trade both in against a decent new one the our monthly payments will be the same so she doesnt see much point in replacing 2 for 1 and having the same costs...i keep tellin her we will save on the insurance and tax but shes not up for that...How mush do you reckon i would get for mine private ?

The one car setup doesn't necessarily have to involve something more expensive, does it?

On the value of your vRS, it depends on age, condition and mileage really - throw us some details :)

its an 04 2004 model got 42K on the clock had 2 (36K an 42K)services in the last 9 months, tyres are all 6mm and just had new front pads..oh plus the mods listed on my signature..Its a tidy car i just need to get the seats cleaned !

On that info, I would have thought about 7.5k. The mods you've made won't make any difference to the value, but may make it more difficult to sell.

Steve

Why not sell both and buy a 2nd hand circa
