Independant garages for servicing

Featured Replies

Hi, I had my 03 octavia l&k serviced at a main dealer (60,000 mile service) was informed the car needed new discs and pads all round, I suggested a trip to an independant garage for a second opinion. When they tried to remove rear wheels they found they had seazed onto the hubs requiring extremelly forcefull removal ie hammer and block of wood, it was observed I needed new pads on rear but the rest was fine for another 10,000 miles, but however my rear tires were showing 2mm of tread (bordering on being illegal) this annoyed me even further as the dealership failled to inform me.

After buying 2 new rear tires I decided to complain to Skoda uk and the dealership. As you are probably aware I didnt get far.

I also own an 06 fabia vrs which is due its first service, before I was under the impression that a main dealer is the best place to have a car serviced under warranty, I know now from experience that if you can find a decent independant garage ( which there are plenty to choose from) your car will get a far better service than some dealership were a machanic is just worried about his bonus and not your return custom.

I have also had the dealership contact me to tell me the vrs cannot be serviced to skodas standards other than at a skoda dealership b#####ks, as long as the garage is vat registered and genuine parts are used and they have the correct diagnostics then they are fine.

Dont get bullied.

Doesnt even have to be genuine parts as long as they are made in the EU.

Standards at Skoda dealers seem to vary tremendously, find a good one & your lucky. As long as they are shifting plenty of new cars SUK are generally happy.

As Ross said anyone can service the car, just make sure its a competent person experienced with the make.

Many tuners like Jabba & JKM also offer normal servicing, they have better technicians, people who actually care & will be far cheaper than a main stealer. Do your homework & you should be able to find someone you can trust & build a relationship with.

Good Luck

I second that. Had my Octavia serviced at JKM, they did an excellent job on the service at a very good price. Also, they identified a potentially very dangerous problem with the steering that the supplying dealer should have spotted when they allegedly serviced the car 3 weeks beforehand. TBH I'd pay main dealer rates to people like JKM just for the peace of mind that I'm getting a thorough job done by professionals who care. The fact that I don't have to pay main dealer rates is a bonus - JKM get it anyway as I'm down for the latest Koni FSD Group Buy :D

Interesting; I know the dealer warned me that my tyres were down to 3mm all round (not that it mattered; new tyres were on the "things to do" list for the next week).

I agree - my Octy has been serviced by Star Performance since new. As they tuned the beast, they know it inside out. Half the cost of a dealer service as well.:thumbup:
